It was very sudden, although not unexpected. He had a heart attack 2 weeks ago and when they got him into the hospital, they found stage 4 leukemia. He was responding well to the chemo and they were going to release him yesterday afternoon. The nurse when in to check on him early in the morning, and he was non-responsive. He had a DNR, so at least it was peaceful.
Anyway, I want to do something for his wife and daughter. They are major foodies, so I was thinking of making a freezer meal. Any suggestions?
Re: So my neighbor died yesterday
oh wow that is so sad....
Umm some sort of casserole or lasagna...
I wonder if the leukemia somehow caused the heartattack. How scary. Good thoughts sent their way.
What about chicken parm? You could bread the chicken then put sauce on the bottom of the pan, then the chicken, then top with a little more sauce and some cheese. They would just pop it in the oven for 30ish minutes.
No lasagna, no fruit baskets.
I would wait on the food until the rush dies down. We had to throw away SO MUCH food and it was sad.
Possibly, but he'd had a bad heart for a number of years. He was severely overweight and his wife and doctors kept trying to get him to lose it so that his heart problems would improve. He also had 2 knee replacements and emphysema. The man was a walking time bomb. But of all the things that could/should have killed him, no one expected leukemia.
And thank you- now I'm craving chicken parm. lol
I second this. Thats sounds great!
That is so thoughtful of you. The family will be in my T & P.
Don't do lasagna everyone does lasagna. When my MIL was in a really serious accident my FIL ate lasagna for months. I'm not kidding you it was hysterical the amount of lasagna...it is now a family joke! We really apperciated it but from then on I always try to think of something different. I like the soup idea.
Also I think waiting until after the rush is a good idea.
