1st trimester spotting and/or yeast infection

I was on endmetrin (progestrone suppositories) and had very light spotting Friday morning when I woke up.  I had an appt with RE anyway and they did an ultrasound - both babies measured to date and we saw both heartbeats, which were at 130 BPM and 126 BPM.

RE told me to stop taking endometrin because it was probably causing irritation that led to the spotting.  I had a very slight bit Sat, which stopped.  But late this afternoon it was a little heavier than before - it is mostly brown, but I also feel as though I have a yeast infection.  Could that cause the spotting?  Has anyone had this happen.  I do not have another appt. until Friday, but am planning on calling tomorrow if it continues. TIA!

  • I don't know about the yeast infection, but brown spotting is definitely not a big deal.  I had actual bleeding at about the same point in my pregnancy and that turned out to be fine, too.

Definitely call for peace of mind, and if it's a yeast infection, you'll want a prescription to clear it up.

  • I was just talking to my doctor about this today. Extra yeast is normal during pregnancy. Of course check with your doc first but mine told me if it was something that was really bothering me, I could use Monistat (either the 5 or 7 day.) She did say that most will try to wait it out of the 1st tri before they do use it.
  • I had brown spotting with DD right between 7 and 8 weeks. My very old school doc at the time said that many women experience it around that time because that is when their "next" period would have been (think about it - you would have had one at 4 weeks and another 4 weeks later). I still wonder if there is any truth to that?
  • Thanks! I went in today and everything is fine.  I think IF had scarred me for life and the face that is twins has me twice as worried too! Hopefully I'll be able to relax soon!
