Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How long did you labor at home??

It's my time ladies!! I've been having steady painful contrax for 2 hours now, lost my MP and am currently bleeding some. The contractions are averaging 5 min apart 30-40 seconds, but I want to labor at home as long as I can. How long did you last at home? When did you know "ohhhh sh!t, I better go now"?  TIA and hopefully join you soon!

Re: How long did you labor at home??

  • I labored at home for seven hours, and I knew *exactly* when it was time to go.   That said, I'd still advise you err on the side of caution!

  • How exciting for you!

I labored at home for 7 hours.  I waited until they were 3-5 minutes apart.  If this is your first baby, it may not progress quickly, so I recommend you try to relax and rest NOW!

I wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearing about your beautiful, healthy baby.

     Blessings.

  • I stayed home for 6 or so hours.  Wish I would've stayed home a little longer, but since it was my first and I had no concept of how quickly things would go, I wanted to be cautious.  It wasn't so bad laboring at the hospital though.  I was able to walk around quite a bit.

     Good luck!

  • I was at work, and they MADE me leave when my contractions were about 10 minutes apart. Mind you, I'd been having lead-up contractions for 3 days before, so I didn't know I was actually in labour at the time. Good thing they made me go, though, she was born 3.5hrs after they made me leave the office!
  • I labored at home for about 12 hours (that's how long it took for my ctx to get about 5 mins apart) then went to L&D, but got sent home. I then labored for another 24 hours at home before going back just because my hospital isn't exactly nearby and I was so afraid of being sent home again. I hope to GOD you don't have to labor at home that long!! I was miserable.

  • Thanks for the well wishes ladies! I'm already at 5 min. between contrax. Is it ok to stay at home or do you think I should go?

My ctx stayed at 5 mins apart for a LONG time, but once I lost my MP and was bleeding some they did speed up and when I got to the hospital I was 5cm. If you're comfortable waiting then wait. My ctx were very painful by the time I finally forced myself to go. Maybe call the dr and see what he/she thinks?

  • I labored at home for 24 hours ): I was sent home from the hospital due to no progress. I was only in the hospital for 3 hours before LO was born.
  • I labored at home for 1 1/2 days! I started having contractions on a Sunday and didn't have DD until Tuesday afternoon. I went to the hospital once and my doctor's office twice to be checked and I wasn't dilated enough, but my contractions were painful and 2-3 mins apart. On the second trip to the hospital, I was 3cm and they went ahead and broke my water then. With that said, it could happen tonight or a day or two from now, just be prepared. Good luck!
  • YAY!!! This sounds like it is it for you. Great call on laboring at home as well, by the way.

My water broke and that's when I went in (no contrax prior to it happening).

  • Didn't read all of those replies, but my whole labor was 7 hours in length.  We got to the hospital just as the contractions picked up, they were not painful when we left.

I went so quick, I personally would advise against alot of labor at home unless someone can check you.  or check yourself.  I was 4cm and 5 mins later I could feel her head.

  • So many questions.. agggh. I was 2 cm last Tuesday at my appt. I'm going to ride this out a little bit longer. They are getting closer together now, and I guess I'm afraid to wait too long Embarrassed Thanks for the support. Hopefully I can do this natural like I've been planning. Hopefully this is it and it will be as easy as all of my pregnancy has been. BYE!
  • I labored at home for about 24 hours.  I knew that I needed to leave when I started to feel a lot of rectal pressure and the urge to bear down.  I was fully dilated and effaced when we got to the hospital

ETA: I did get checked in early labor.  I went to the hospital and was 4 cm dilated.  I walked for an hour and was checked again and had made no progress so I went home.  I then labored for another entire day before returning to the hospital
