Sorry but for some of this stuff I feel clueless. Which crib mattress do you all recommend? What about swings...I was going to get the fisher price Zen one but not totally sure. Thanks for any help!
As far as mattresses, we just bought the cheapest. Yes the more expensive ones are higher quality, but they all have to meet minimal standards.
If at all possible, I'd recommend a swing that plugs in. We'll have 1 that plugs in and 1 that uses batteries (we'll see how quickly we go through batteries).
I agree that Baby Bargains is helpful for narrowing it down. Of course I'm still overwhelmed b/c we're trying to balance "budget for 3" with safety and good ratings.

We have the Colgate Classica III mattresses and they seem to be good. They are foam, so they are lighterweight which is helpful.
In terms of swings, we registered for the FP Rainforest swing, mainly because you could plug it in. It has worked great the DDs really seemed to like it, particularly when they were really little. We also were given a Graco swing (https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2963506) and I liked it for other reasons. One, it has higher sides than the FP swing so I feel like I can still use it until they girls reach the weight limit. (I've only been using it recently when they are congested because it helps them to sleep elevated.) Also, my DDs liked it more than the other one as they got older because is has toys on the tray. It has some drawbacks too--it only works on batteries, the mobile is pretty much useless, and it doesn't swing much when your DC gets heavy. However, both of these swings had enough positive features that I'll keep them around for potential kid #3.

My babies aren't here yet, but we but the mattresses from Costco. They are called LA Baby and have organic fill. We got them on sale for about $100 including shipping on costco.com.
