anyone have any advice on going on a trip with baby? We'll be spending about 4-5 days at my parents' house 5 hours away. Need advice on what to pack and what I don't need to bring.
Allow plenty of time. Have a plan on where baby will sleep, be bathed and a place to put them down. I always over pack clothes. There will always be a washing machine near by.
When we traveled with dd for an 8 day trip (driving 18hrs to get there) we took nearly everything we own for her. And I can't think of anything we didn't use. So I say bring as much as you can.
We spent 3 wks in our camper--here are a few things I figured out: Don't bother with things for DC to sit in/play on if there is going to be family nearby--they want to hold them and our bouncy seat just ended up in the way. The Bumbo was great because it didn't take up much space and was great to have just in case I needed to set her down.
Take a quilt or playmat for her to play on the floor. It helps to define her space if other people are coming in and out of the room and they don't walk too close (works great if there are other children so they don't play too close to her)
Take your detergent that you use for DC. Ultimately when you need to wash clothes, you aren't going to be able to find what you need (like free and clear, dreft-small places don't carry them and it's a pain to have to get through a bigger store during the holidays for just one item)
Take a bottle brush for cleaning your supplies (don't want to have to use the dish rag they are using to clean dirty pans)
Take all the medicine you have--tylenol, teething stuff, thermometer, etc. It doesn't take up much space and it will make you feel better.
Re: advice on traveling with baby
remember your baby monitor and white noise machine
my lo for what ever reason dirtied way more outfits when we travel, so bring at least 2-3 per day (or be prepared to wash)
if you bf, bring the pump and a few bottles just in case.
