my twins were born almost 10 weeks premature and one of them has quite a few brady(s) throughout the day.

does anyone have any experience with this and did they grow out of it?  the nicu docs don't seem to worry about it but i do Sad

Re: did your twins brady (bradycardia)?

  • Both of mine had it.  They were on caffeine as a result and came home on monitors as well.

  • One of ours did - she just came home from the NICU on Friday.  Our twins were born at 37 weeks but she was IUGR.  She was in the NICU for 4 weeks and came home on heart rate monitor.  All is going well and she is showing signs of growing out of it.  She is on a food thickener and previsaid just in case it is reflux based.  I am not on line much now since both are home, but send me an email if you have questions or need a little support - kpeske1 at aol dot com

  • I was told it would be more worrisome if preemies didn't brady.  Our boys were both on caffeine for a couple weeks until their levels got too high for these issues.  Eventually they tapered off as they got older.  They came home at 35 and 36 weeks gestational age and both had been brady free for at least 5 days before coming home.  They will out grow it!

  • Yes, they sure did. I know it is absolutely terrifying, and nothing about low heartrate sounds normal, but it IS normal for 30 weekers to have brady episodes.

Have you been  over to the preemie board yet? That board is full of amazing women who have been there/done that, and who can offer advice and support, no matter what your concerns (or accomplishments!) are.

And, FWIW, my twins were 30 weekers and they turned 2 about a month ago. They are doing really well now - just about perfect. If you have any questions specific to 30 weeker twins, please feel free to ask me! Though you'll probably have better luck paging me on the preemie board than here.

  • Mine were 10 wks early too and yes we had them as well.  They are scary, but they did outgrow them.  I asked for monitors when they came home and it did happen once after we got home.  Altho, as our pedi said, you don't want to deal with that at home.

HUGS they will grow out of it :)
