  They measure the neck of the baby as a pre-screen sort of.  (for all kinds of problems)  They also take blood.

  ETA: NT stands for Nucheal Translucency (spelling may be a little off) so you can google it for more details

  It's the measurement of the fluid at the back of the neck.  It should be between 1 and 3 mm.  In a baby with a chromosomal abnormality, it's between 8 and 10 mm.
