how many naps per day does your 2 mo old take?

I got my LO (8.5 weeks) on this schedule of going down for a nap between each feeding when he starts to get fussy. He usually sleeps between 1 and 2 hours each time (usually closer to 1 hour). So he probably takes about 5 naps a day, and is sleeping through the night too (7ish hours). The sleeping success is due in large part to a routine, the 5 S's, the swing and Moby, and LOUD white noise.

I am starting to wonder though if he is sleeping too much. I don't want him to miss out on interaction and stimulation if I am putting him to sleep too much. But I am guessing the fussiness about 30 min after he finishes eating is due to him being tired, right (since he goes to sleep)??

So ... how often and long does your LO nap?

(P.S. Could it be a sign that my LO may be ill that he is sleeping so often or is this normal?)

  • Henry will eat, stay up for an hour or 2 and then sleep until his next meal.  He eats every 3 hours.  He is also STTN.

I figure if he's fussy and wants to nap that he should be able to.

  • After each feeding she sleeps for one-three hours. So about 5-7 "naps" a day. She isn't STTN yet, still gets up once.

This...except DD is still up every 2-3 hours through the night.

  • DD is almost 2 months old.

She is taking one long(usually from 2-5pm) nap in the afternoon.  The rest of the day she is taking short(usually 30 minutes) cat naps after each bottle.  She then sleeps from around 9pm-2am and back to sleep fairly quickly then wakes up for the day around 9am.  In all she is sleeping about 16 hours a day, give or take a little.

This is exactly what our guy does and I was wondering the same thing.  After each feeding he is good for about 30-45 min of play and then gets fussy in which we have him nap, either in the swing on us, or in his boppy.

  • My DS gets 2 or 3 naps per day.

The first (11am) and second one (1pm) only last about an hour each.  The third one is around 3pm and lasts until 5/5:30.  Then he goes to bed for the night at 7:30/8pm.

He is not STTN yet, but he does go for about a 6 hour stretch, then 4 hour stretches after that.

  • He will eat, then play for about an hour or so and then nap until his next feeding. During the day he eats every 2.5-3 hours and at night every 3-4.

  • My DD takes about 4 naps per day, 2 short ones while being held, 1 long afternoon one, then again a shorter one in the early evening. Most nights she STTN, when she doesn't she'll go 6 hours then another 3.

  • After he wakes up in the morning and gets a bottle he will usually stay up until his next feeding.  I usually put him down for a nap between 11:30 and 12:30 and then he'll sleep until 4:00-4:30.  He'll eat and most likely stay up for take a little "cat" nap until his bath at 7:00.  Then back down between 8 or 9pm, sometimes later.
