So my RE's office just called about DH's collection. I had mentioned using the special condom that Baze2 sent me (thanks!) since I have heard some ladies on here talk about it. My nurse just called and said she wasn't sure if they "did" it that way there and might switch us to TI. WHAT! I am a bit floored. I am bringing the condom tomorrow to my apt and to talk to them about this. Anyone else have any other ideas? Would they know the difference if we BD and he did his business in a cup? My heart is a bit broken. help.

Re: RE Office Just Called- NOT Happy
I'm not sure what this special condom entails, but can you just pour it into the cup they give you? I wonder why they cant work with you here. Sorry!
Sorry if I missed a prior message, but is your DH unwilling to provide his sample in a cup?
You cannot have sex to provide the sample, because your fluids will interfere with the sample. You also cannot give him a BJ either, because your saliva will do the same thing.
Why do they want to switch you from IUI (I assume) to TI?
Sorry I had posted about this last week or so. DH can't (never has or even close) came to masterbation. We have tried numerous times and he just cant climax. It is also somewhat against his culture. I am not sure what to do with it since I assumed my RE would tell me how to use it. It is a special condom for IF purposes just like this (retrieval). Yes, they want to switch me from IUI to TI. No idea what to do. I feel like we are going backwards and its been 2 years TTC this month. Ughh
as long as you're using the collection condom, i can't imagine why there would be a problem with it. Our RE offered it to us as an option if he needed.
i'm sorry you have to deal with this.

Ok Sarah..not to get personnal but we had some of the same issues. The condom is a non spermacidal, not lubricated condom used for collecting the specimen. If your Re's office can run the test on the specimen in a cup this should be no different. It is just a latex "cup" so to speak.
My Re's office said that is exactly the same but they charge more to run the test because it is more difficult to get all the fluid out. They said many couples use it for religious purposes.( sounds similiar to your situation)
second..and more personal..are you sure that your DH produces semen? Only ask b/c mine had some issues and was having retrograde ejaculation (goes up into the bladder rather than coming out) I had no idea. I mean I knew it didn't come out like other girls had talked about after sex..ie no sleeping in the wet spot (yuuck sorry)..That was how we found out about the low testosterone.. something to think about.
We are assuming DH's sperm is fine. he has a son (5yrs old) from a previous relationship. And we always have to fight over the wet spot. LOL. I am hoping we can get around this or figure it out. I have a hard time imagining we are the only couple to face this?
You are not alone, I assure you. I am sure the office will be ok with the condom. I would bring it to your appoinntment to show them.
