Toddler moms: how many naps

My girls have been fighting their am naps and I'm reluctantly thinking of dropping to 1. What age did anyone drop to 1 nap? And what time do u do the 1 nap? Thanks

Re: Toddler moms: how many naps

  • I think that was about the time that DS dropped to 1 nap per day (maybe a little later (if it was later it wasn't much later at all).  He naps from 12:30 until about 3:30.

  • We dropped a nap at 13 months.  Charlotte just wasn't taking an afternoon nap and Evelyn was taking short afternoon naps.  We moved the morning nap in very small increments up to noon over the course of about a month.  We also made sure to take the girls out for a drive or a walk in the stroller during the late afternoon to allow them to take a cat nap if they needed one.

Even though there was definitely a transition period of about a month where they were off their game a bit, switching to one nap was awesome.  It's so much easier to schedule your day and my girls became much better sleepers.

  • It was around 11 or 12 months.

  • Griffin dropped to one nap around 15mos - that's when they did it at daycare.
  • around 18 months (16 adjusted)
  • One dropped the nap really early at like 10 months because they were at daycare and the other 2 kids there were 2 & 3 years old and she just wanted to watch them all the time. But they both took 2 naps a day at home with me on weekends. I became a SAHM when they turned 1 and I was never able to transition them back to 2 naps a day consistantly. So for about a month the 1 twin took 2 naps a day most of the time and the other one only took 1.

At 13 months I transitioned them both to 1 nap a day. I started holding the 2 nap a day twin off until noon and then they both went down for their nap. It was really hard at first because I had to feed them lunch at like 11:15, so they would be ready to nap at noon. They only took about an hour and half nap at first. So during this transition I put them to bed early so they could catch up on their sleep. It took almost 3 weeks of putting them to bed at like 6:00 until they caught up on the sleep and starting waking at 8AM again and were able to go until 1:00 for naptime. 1:00 is there current nap time and they usually get up at around 3:00 or 3:30 and bedtime starts at 7:30 with 8PM lights out.

I highly recommend when you do start the transition you up their bedtime by at least a half hour maybe even and hour. You will also probably see them waking up earlier because they are trying to alter their sleep schedule entirely, so it will be tough for a while, that is why I recommend the early bedtime to compensate for the lack of sleep. It does suck for a while because I got used to having them up later and spending time with DH when he got home from work. But it had to be done because they were just horrible in the evenings until bedtime since they were not getting enough sleep during the day.

Now things are great, sometime they even sleep until 8:30AM, which I love because I am not an early riser by choice.
