Anyone not interview Pediatricians?

I have 2 recommendations for Pedi's. One is from my neighbor/good friend, how took her only child to this Doctor for years.  The other is from my OB, who gave me the name to have a 2nd option - although he knows the one my neighbor recommended and had good things to say.  I am not convinced that having an interview with both is necessary, but am thinking to atleast go to the clinic, to meet the staff, the Doctor and get basic information - I mean to the one my neighbor speaks highly of, not both  What did you do?

Re: Anyone not interview Pediatricians?

  • We went to one, liked her, and are keeping her.  No need for more than one interview if you really like someone.  Just go with your gut feelings.

  • I used the one recommended by my sis. Didn't meet them until a few days after baby was born. we've been happy so far. My sis is a pediatric ICU nurse so I felt comfortable just going on her word.
  • We didn't. I asked my OB who her favorite pedi is at the practice (I got to an office with OB/GYN and Pediatrics) and that's who we're using.

  • I haven't because I don't have the time and we will be changing insurance once DH's insurance kicks in so there's no point right now.

  • I didn't even know you could interview pediatricians. How does one go about doing that? Can you actually call their office and set up a time to meet them?

  • I'm not. I've never interviewed my regular docs or ob's and do not find it necessary to take a up a busy doc's time to ask a bunch of questions that can be answered when I bring the baby the first time.  If I dislike the doctor then,  I can switch after the babies first appt.

I have also gotten 2 recs from girlfriend's with kids and my own ob for the same pedi, so I'll be taking LO to her.

  • We haven't.

But we're going to use the same one our Families use.  Never had any problems with them, and I've met them on occassions going with Sisters with babies to docs.

  • I didn't w/DS.  When I had him, the pediatricians practice that worked at our hospital had an office right across the street from my OB's office and my sister also used them.  We were happy with the treatment DS received while we were there, so we stayed with them.

  • I personally never interviewed my DS's pedi.. I work at the hospital that he works at and i've seen him around but never had real interaction with him. He seemed like a nice gentle guy, is a very popular dr and he is the lead MD in the clinic.  So I chose him.

We bumped heads alot in the beginning because he just irritated me lol.. but i've grown to know his personality and to take in what he says, think about it and then decide if I want to listen 100%, 50% or not at all lol..

So we work together and he knows that I dont always agree with things he says..  but I also know that he knows what he's talking about and I feel VERY comfortable having him oversee my child(ren)s health!

  • I didn't plan on it.  Our family doctor is in a practice that has multiple docs and we usually see a PA anyway.  If I don't like one that we see, I'll just schedule the next appt. with someone else.  So far I have liked everyone that I have ever met with for my regular appts.

  • I didn't.  I just went to the pracice my SIL went to with my niece.  She always liked it and had good experiences.  We have so far too.

  • We didn't interview.  We HATED our first pedi, he was very "I'm the doc, I know everything, you're a dumbass".  The pedi we go to now is great.  I don't think it's a big deal, if you don't like one, just switch (of course it's more convenient not to, but I think you can only know so much about one until you take your child there).
  • I couldn't.  People ket recommending the same pedi to me.  He doesn't take new patients or do interviews.  You can only get him if you have a baby and you tell the hospital he is your pedi.  So I took the chance, figuring if we didn't like him we could always switch, but if we didn't SAY him, we would never have him.  BEST DECISION EVER.
  • My MIL gave us 3 names, they are all fantastic Pediatricians, they meet all of our criteria but only one has an on-call nurse so that is the one we are going with. If I am having an issue with Ethan I want to speak to a nurse right away and not have to leave a message and wait for a call back.

  • I actually chose the same pediatrician that I went to as a child. A couple of my friends also send their children there and have nothing but great things to say.
  • We have not interviewed any of our doctors, including the pedi.  When DD was born, we just went off the list of doctors recommended by my OB.  We ended up not liking him and switched to a wonderful doctor that was right next to my OB and we LOVED her.  We had to leave her when we left AZ to move to WA.  We found a doctor in WA that we liked by just finding one close to our home but that was temporary due to insurance changes.

The one we have now is AWESOME!  He has a wonderful personality, is knowledgeable, and the kids think he is great.  How I found him?  I went to my insurance company's website and viewed pedis biographies.  I weeded out some that were older (and more likely to be "old school" - DD is a picky eater and we needed someone who we were compatible with on our method of handling this and we have found that doctor).

I found my current OB through the insurance website too and have been very pleased.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks ladies :)  I think I will call up this Pedi which has been recommended and advise I am expecting and my due date and that I wish to have him as my child's Pedi.  I will also ask if I can come in to see the clinic and get some basic info.  I have been dreading having to interview Pedi's.. I figured, like many of you have said, that if I didn't like the Pedi after having taken my LO to him, I can always switch.  My cousin is pressuring me to interview a few, but I just don't see the need.  I trust my neighbor and respect her judgement.  If this Pedi was good enough for their daughter, he's good enough for me too.  Of course I won't hesitate changing if need be.

  • We are going on a recommendation and if we do not like her, we will be going to another doctor.
