Pregnant after a Loss

Nervous! what's your story re: stripping membranes?

Today I go into check for progress (dilated to 0cm 2 weeks ago, 1cm last week) and to get my membranes stripped/sweeped. Dr is wanting to stir up some action. We?re doing this again next monday along with an amnio. I sure hope our little girl passes her lung maturity test at 36w6d so we can do induction in the 37th week for this puppps rash!

I?m so nervous about the stripping, I?m going to be pretty crampy afterwards...yuck! But hopefully it will help things progress so I have an easier induction next week!

What are your experiences with getting membranes stripped? Did it make you cramp a lot? Did you go into labor soon? Anyone?

  • It didn't do anything for me, sorry.  I had it done at my 40 week appointment with DD, and she still ended up having to be induced at more than 41 weeks.  It was painful, and unsuccessful.

Sorry you have PUPPS--I had that with DS and it was awful, especially in the humid summer.  Hope you get some relief soon.

I'm not looking forward to the pain. I don't expect it to put me into labor today and I don't think my doctor does...but I guess her goal is to do it one or two times to hopefully see some progress for an easier induction next week. AHH.  But I guess it is possible to set me over the edge, but I highly doubt it will.

I like hearing everyones stories...gives me an idea on what to expect! :)

  • I had it done at 38 weeks-it was the second most painful thing i ever had done and my water didnt break until 39 w 3 days. so for me it was unsuccessful

  • I had it done at 39w 3d. I lost my mp and had contractions all afternoon. Then I went to bed and when I woke up: nothing! It was pretty uncomfortable and it didn't do squat lol. But I've heard several women who were starting to progress well on their own say that it was sucessful for them, so it could help you out!

  • My doctor told me (and I've read) that most women expect for it to do something right away...but it really takes one or two or more times for it to do anything. And if you don't get it done once to realistically expect progress-progress in a week or so. Ahh We'll see!

Well, either way, GL! I have to say, I never found it painful. I actually didn't know that my OB had been stripping my membranes until after he'd done it the 2nd time. I was maybe a tiny bit crampy afterward but not really. Definitely didn't start any contractions for me. I think the last time I had it done was at the 39ish wk appt. and DD was born a week later (to the day) after my water broke. So who knows if the stripping helped. Regardless, progress dust your way!
