I didn't even do it on the ride home from the hospital.
My MIL asked me if I did when we got home and I was like "Uh, the thought never crossed my mind". But LO is very well behaved when he's in the car. Maybe I'd ride in the back if he wasn't. Plus 90 percent of the time I'm by myself with him.
Can I ask a question about this? This may come off as flaming, but I'm not. I'm genuinely curious. Why do people sit in the back with their LO (for those that do)? There isn't anything you can do other then look at them. If they are crying, you can try and calm them down, but you can't take them out of the car seat or anything and there is going to be the day that they cry in the car seat - and if you are driving you aren't going to stop every 5sec (you'll never make it to your destination if you do!!).
I did until I drove with him alone. I figured if he survives while I'm driving alone, he'll be ok if I'm up front with DH. It really helps that car rides knock him out and he always sleeps through them. When he goes for his shots I'll probably sit back there with him on the way home just because I'll feel so bad for making him get the shots.

No. The only time I've ever sat with him back there was the trip home from the hospital. We have a 5 hour trip for Christmas coming up and I'm debating sitting back there then so I can soothe him and keep him happy if he gets fussy

I know what you mean. I only did it on the trip home from the hospital because I was just so excited to have him. But my LO is pretty good in the car. Some people have mirrors so they can see their LO in the back seat, but I"m not sure it's a good ideea because it could distract you while driving.

To each their own. For me it was security. The same reason she sleeps in our room at night. I feel I can respond quicker if the need were to arise.
I do when DH and I drive my jeep. ?The car seat makes it impossible for someone to sit in the passenger seat without having your knees up to your nose and your face in the glass. We cannot put the car seat in the middle cuz its does not fit properly. ?Basically, Jeep Liberty's?were?not made for infants. ?Major fail.?
Me: 30, DOR with a FSH of 12.5
DH: 31, no issues

7/2012 150mg of Gonal-f + trigger + IUI = BFN
8/2012 Surprise unmedicated BFP!! Due May 8, 2013
I've never done this and actually have never heard of anyone doing this. I don't know a lot of people with kids though. My LO falls asleep the second you put him in a car seat so I don't think he would need me back there.

I did until at least 6 weeks, and still do sometimes. Like when he got his 2 month shots, or when he had a cold. He never fussed or cried in the car, but I liked being back there to keep him company. My husband liked to too, but didn't get to often because I hate to drive when there's other people in the car.
I only have when we are going to the inlaws and taking our german shepherd with us, b/c LO is in the middle and my dog doens't fit in just 1 seat. Other than that, no.
Nope, I didn't even sit with her on the ride home from the hospital. The only time I sat with her in the back is when we had to drive into Boston to get her hearing screen done (she kept falling asleep during the hospital screen so they couldn't complete it). We had to keep her awake for 3 hours before the test and this was the only way we could keep her up.
I only do it if we're making long trips. My parents live 2 hours away and sometimes it's more comfortable for me to sit in the back so my knees aren't in the dashboard. She usually sleeps when we're in the car but sometimes she'll wake up and want her noonie.
Guess I'm the odd girl out. When DH is driving, I still ride with her in the back. (she's 3.5 months...still need to out my ticker back up). I never thought about moving up front!
I worry that she'll choke or need me, or sometimes I just want to keep her company. I'm probably still over-protective of LO because she's a preemie, though. At 3 months, she still just barely is big enough for the seat.
Well I guess I am the crazy overprotective mom then. I have sat with him every car ride. And we drive somewhere pretty much daily. I know I cant take him out... And he never cries in the seat, he usually sleeps. But I like being back there with him. I can replace his paci without scaling the seat, and when he is awake he holds my finger or we sing and interact. I feel like he is more calm with me around. And to the person who said they take interaction with DH over sitting near the baby, you can still talk to DH, you are only 2 feet away
I am overprotective too. Partially because it is how I am and partially because of the hell I went through to get her here. Anyway she spits up out her nose sometimes and tends to choke a tiny bit. It never lasts long but it does freak me out so I prefer to sit by her when I can. I don't usually for short trips during daylight when I can see her easily.

I guess I am too... I like to be right there for my son if he needs me.
