Yay! I am having a billing issue and the only answer I get when I call the billing dept. is "I don't know." Which is less than helpful...
Did they charge "global billing" where they take the amount you would owe out of pocket per your insurance, divide by the number of your appointments and then collect a small amount at each appointment? If so, does the receipt you get say this or does it say "co-pay"
If you would prefer to PM me, please do so!
They are charging me $20 at each visit and calling it a co-pay (which is what is on my receipt). When I was on the phone with my insurance it came up and they said I'm being charged wrong- I should have paid $30 at the first appt. and nothing after. UNLESS they are doing global billing.
If I multiply $20 by my number of appointments I get $260 which would make sense if they are global billing a $2,600 fee because then I would owe $260. But when I try to ask billing if this is what they are charging me for, they just say they don't know!
I am frustrated because #1 I don't want to get a bill after paying $20 at each appointment and #2 I have hit my OOP $1,500 max so I refused to pay at my last appt. until someone helps me figure this out.
Sorry that was so long! I just don't get why billing can't answer this question.
I dont go to that practice but I just wanted to add that a similar thing happened to me...I was only supposed to pay the first $30 and then be billed for the rest via global billing. Except nobody told me until I was like halfway through my pregnancy. So, I saved all of the receipts and when they billed me after birth I just faxed over the receipts and they deducted it from my total bill. I dont know if thats the same, but it sounded the same so I wanted to chime in

Thanks! I am glad I have all my receipts...if this ends up happening I can (hoepfully) use them to prove I've already paid.
The weird thing is i never got charged the $30 co-pay. At my first appt. they said I wouldn't owe anything until the next appt. when they had run my insurance. That's when I started making the $20 payment.
I have absolutely no problem paying what I owe- I just want to make sure I am being globally billed vs. being charged the wrong co-pay. KWIM?
Billing dispute: solved! I finally was able to speak to someone in person today who explained the global billing to me and confirmed that this is what I am paying for and that despite what my receipts show, in the system it shows me paying off my $260 balance. Phew! I am relieved.
