Help with back pain?

I woke up with a horrible back ache this morning, stupid hotel bed. It doesn't feel like muscle pain and the massage dh tried to give me did nothing to help. It feels more like I have a pinched nerve or I need to crack my spine yet no amount of bending, twisty or dh trying to crack my back has helped.

It aches just sitting here and sends shooting pain when I move in any way.

Any remedy ideas? TIA!

  • I know the exact feeling you're talking about.  I get pinched nerves every so often and I find that a heating pad helps a bit.

    Definitely. I feel like my butt is trying to detach itself from my body. I bend at the waist and my spine sends shooting pain up and down.  

  • If you really think it is a nerve, use a cold pack; put it on for about 20 minutes, rest 10 and repeat.

    Thanks I will try this. I used the heated car seat on it the whole 3 hr ride home and it did nothing to help so maybe ice will! Thank you!

    Stretch. Like reach for the sky stretch. And if you do pilates at all, that may help as well.

    Could be a pinched nerve or a herniated disc.

  • Forgot to say that you should avoid bending over and stretching your back in that manner--just up and lengthening the spine as much as possible

    ok great, thanks for mentioning that. I've been trying to bend and crack my back all day. I'll stop now. The stretching for the sky felt good. I'm trying ice too, it feels nice.

     

  • If it is in your lower back - while sitting, take right ankle and rest on left knee.  Bend forward to stretch out and rest there.  Do the same with the left ankle to the right knee.

    If it is mid back, lay down, hold your knees to your chest and rest there.  If you can rock back and forth and then side to side.

     I hope that helps.  Do the ice that pp said - 15 on, 15 off.  If you want to get blood cirlulating there, do ice 15 on, 15 off, heat 15 on and repeat.

  • I just wanted to second the ice motion. I am currently in bed with one as we type this as my back was out all weekend long.  My chiro always has me do ice to reduce the inflammation and only heat is i did something specifically to a muscle.  Be careful with your hot baths, they feel good at the time, but you pay the price an hour later. Try to take an anti inflamatory like ibueprofen. I hope you feel better.

    Thank you for adding this, I really appreciate it. I'll go take a Motrin that I have left from my lap. I don't want to be grunting every time I move tomorrow but I definitely don't want to have to get a sub for this.
