Do not try to mess around with your diet. The purpose of the test is to see whether you have gestational diabetes and that's important to the health of your baby. It doesn't measure how much sugar you're eating, it measures how well your body is handling sugar. All you should do before the test is make sure that you are eating regularly (ie, don't try to fast way ahead of time) and then fast when you're supposed to start fasting.
Just chiming in here. I would only alter your diet before the test if you intend to keep it that way for the remainder of your pregnancy... if you have GD, you need to know about it.
I failed the one hour by a little bit, but I didn't alter my eating habits just because I didn't want to mess with my body. I passed my three hour test though so if anything eat what you usually do and just stop eating the night before like they tell you too.
Gestational Diabetes is not the worst thing in the world especially if you stick to the nutritional guidelines.
I wouldn't suggest altering your diet-just because in the case that you DO have GD, you would want them to catch it since it can cause problems for you and your LO. Most women that fail the 1hr go on to pass the 3hr.
I failed the 1hr test and passed the 3hr. No special diet, but I was told to fast 12 hrs before the test so I took my test at 7am so I wouldn't be too hungry.
I failed the 1 hour and the 3 hour during my last pregnancy. Failed the 1 hour this time and just assumed GD (not taking 3 hour again- yuck).
I was told to eat a high protein, low carb diet for two days before the testing. I followed those directions and still failed miserably.
My OB's office gave me a carbo-loading diet for 3 days prior to the 3-hour, supposedly so the 100g drink isn't such a shock to your system. Then I had to fast the night before the test. I STILL failed, and not by just a little bit. I guess if you've got GD, there probably isn't any pre-test diet that is going to change that.
I failed the 1 hr by just a little bit. Taking the 3 hr test tomorrow morning. Dr told me not to carb-load before and just fast from midnight on tonight, but eat regular diet up to the time of fasting.
Good luck to you!

I failed the 1hr and passed the 3hr. I did not change my diet before the 3 hour test. It was my bday, actually, so i had cake and ice cream! I wouldn't change the way you eat though, because you wouldn't want the results to be inaccurate. Not sure if it would really make a difference, but wouldnt you rather manage it if you do have it than hide it and be potentially at some risk?
I failed my 1 hour too. The day before my 3 hour I tried not to eat a lot of carbs and I drank a lot of water. I passed the 3 hour but not sure if it had anything to with my diet.
I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour. Don't do anything different in your diet unless you were told to by the Dr. since they really need to see how your body is reacting to the glucose. Good luck!
