Changing formula question

If you have changed LO's formula due to gassiness or whatever the reason how long did it take for you to see a difference for the better or worse once on the new formula?  We just changed LO from similac advance early shield to similac sensitive due to his gas problem (he turns red trying to get his gas out and mylicon doesn't really help) and I was just curious to see about average how long it takes to see a difference. Thanks!

Re: Changing formula question

  • My experience with Similac (for gas and fussiness) was that I gave it to LO during a 24 hour time period and saw a difference.   However, the moment I introduced my breastmilk and supplemented with the similac - she became fussy.  For our baby, we had to give the formula exclusively for it to work.

  • i am switching too and my dr said it would take a week to work so we will find out.......
  • It took about 48 hours when we ended up switching to Alimentum.

  • We switched to Enfamil Gentlease and it took about 3 days or so for it really to start working, you have to wait for the iron levels from the traditional formula to drop in the baby's body before the you can see results from the new formula. The Gentlease is much better for us, he was literally screaming in pain all night from gas it was awful and we're much better now, he still has the same amount of gas but he has no trouble getting it out now.

  • We also switched from Advanced Early Shield to Sensitive. It took a few days but we have really noticed a difference. It's been great!
