Am the only person not even out of the 1st tri who is getting asked "where's your registry?" already?
Anyway, I'd be totally lying if I didn't admit I was looking at cribs well before I got pregnant. So, when my Mom called dibs on the crib, I said...here are our top three options!
We got this, and right away, because it was on sale in white...
The nursery is painted Benjamin Moore's "Icing on the Cake" which is like a pale tiffany box blue. If I have a girl (which I'm hoping, and also think I'm having) it was perfect because we'll name her Alice and the room is an "alice blue" of sorts. I'm not a big fan of pink. If its a boy, we'll guy it up and we're leaning towards a pirate themed nursery. (My husband's favorite childhood book was Alice in Wonderland, but he LOVES pirates too.)
Re: I already have a crib!
We did Winnie the Pooh. I had my Winnie the Pooh bear from when I was a newborn and went off that. It was really cute, not too girly at all. Now he has a jungle theme and depending on what this baby is, I'll most likely go with a color theme instead of a character theme. It makes it easier to add things.
What are you thinking as a theme?
People are already asking me that too. We have picked out a crib already and my mom also called dibs. We found one that we like at JCP and she said that she was going to order after the first of the year.

I think we are going to go and look at paint this weekend too.
I have been asked about a registry on several occasions already also. My parents called dibs on buying the furniture for the nursery but I have asked them to wait until the first of the year. Not because I am not excited for my little one to be coming but I am still nervous, even after having 2 ultrasound both at which I heard the babies heart beat and he/she is actually two days ahead of schedule as far as measurements go. I am still scared and after 2 losses in the last year I am kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop.
But after the first of the year I am going to have to get over it because my family is going to be buying all kinds of things since this is their first grandchild as well.
We only seem to like gender specific.
Girl= definitely Alice in Wonderland. My husband and I are good artists (although not professional) and we'll do a victorian nursery with quirky bits for a girl. Alice blue walls, card suits, white rabbit, and red/white roses, tea party elements. A Tenniel mural and other illustrations. Toile bedding perhaps. We haven't found a ready made group of stuff, we like, but I've found elements we'd use in places like Urban Outfitters. I don't think you need to do a nursery with stuff strictly from a baby store. Here are some stuff, I've been bookmarking pending the findings of the u/s.

Boy= pirates. Treasure maps, big schooner silouettes, parrots. A toy chest like a booty chest.

I think some gender neutral sets are nice, but I don't love them as much as the gender specific stuff, here's one:

I really like this! Especially the paneling details and its look as a double bed. I like an antique look, but unfortunately antique cribs are a safety no-no. It is hard to find nice things like this...when I googled "antique cribs" I often came up with expensive jobbys for $2000+! Yikes!
Do people actually buy these?
