Do you show earlier with twins?

This is my first pregnancy, so everything's all new to me.  I've been seeing a lot of ladies that don't show until 14-20 weeks, but at a little over 9 weeks myself I feel like my bloat is out of control!  I had to unbutton my work pants and when I stopped trying to suck in my stomach, it looks huge!  I will have to take a picture and post it so you can see.  I'm wondering if the bloat is worse because I'm expecting twins??

Re: Do you show earlier with twins?

  • i had horrible bloat with my singleton pg --- and with my twin pg.  Everything was pretty much the same with my two pg's early on. I did start to truly show earlier with the twins- but it was also my 2nd pg, which you generally show earlier with, too- but that was not the bloat - it was around 14w when it was actually babies/uterus growing.

bloat is common in all pg's... has nothing to do with twins.

    congrats on your pg!

  • i didnt show until around 20 weeks.  everyone is different although in the very beginning  when they're just the size of apple seeds, it doesnt really matter how many you have in there - its bloat.

    but soon enough...hehe.  congrats!

  • I was in maternity pants and the belly band by 10 weeks (mostly belly band until 12 weeks, at which time it was almost all maternity pants).  I'm not overweight; I started my pg with a BMI in the 21 range.  So yeah, I think it's fair to say I showed a lot earlier than normal.  My friends who are also pg are just getting into maternity clothing as they approach 16 - 20 weeks, I'm 20 and I am huge!

I read that twin moms are approx. 6 - 8 weeks ahead of singleton moms in terms of uterus size, and it totally makes sense to me.  I look like I'm 26 - 28 weeks for sure.

  • I had a lot of bloat right away but then I got a bump around 11 weeks. I was thin before getting pregnant, not so much anymore LOL!

  • I had horrible bloat with both pgs (first was a singleton), but a lot of it was attributed to IVF.  This time around, I am definitely showing MUCH sooner than I was last time.  Not sure if it is the fact that it is my second pregnancy, twins, or both.

Ditto word for word except that this pg I started showing between 15 and 16 weeks (as opposed to Goldie's 14w).  With my singleton, I started to "truly" show around 20w, but again, 2nd pg's generally show quicker (everything's already been stretched so your body isn't really trying to fight it).

  • That early, it's just bloat. I really didn't experience any bloat until I was about 11w; my January due date buddies from another board were all talking about bloat and pants being too tight earlier than that but I really didn't experience anything till right around 11w ... and then suddenly I needed mat. pants/tummy sleeves by 13w! I still measured 12 weeks at 12w though, but by 16w I measured 20w so I'd say as you get into the second tri you'll most likely expand faster but not so much in the first tri.

  • Bloated at 9 wks.  Not into maternity clothes 100% until 16 wks - which is also when I got my first stranger comments!  So, I don't think that's any sooner than others.

In some cases, it might depend on what you and your clothes looked like before pg?  I switched to empire waist and a-line trapeeze shirts and was still able to wear my pre-pg pants for awhile.  Now at almost 23 wks, I am unmistakably pg!
