MARY REYNA BORN AND PASSED AWAY JULY 31ST, 2009 AT 23 WEEKS.
GOODBYE SWEET BABY...I WILL MISS YOU FOREVER.
***AFTER 17 WEEKS ON BEDREST***
Yes. I just saw a siggy on 6-12 of someone's who's 2.5 year old was born at 25 weeks. I don't know the poster personally, but she appeared to be doing well.
Technically yes, but the chance of survival is still nowhere near 100%. Plus, of those that do survive, the chance of mental and physical disorders is very high. Every day at this point lessens those chances by so much. I hope hope hope that they can keep Jillian in until even 26 weeks, because those extra 2 weeks make SUCH a difference in survival rates.
*ETA: If anyone feels this explanation is inappropriate at this time please let me know and I'll take it down. I fought with myself over whether or not it was right to post this at all, but unfortunately it's the truth.
I just remembered a good friend of my MIL had a baby born at 24 weeks and she is now a happy adorable 2 year old!! She was the smallest baby ever born in the NICU where A & B were. Her name is Lucy and she's super cute and healthy!
Yes it is. and in a level 3 NICU setting, (the highest level), a 24 week can not only survive, but THRIVE.
I thought there were level 4 NICU's as well.
I'm pretty sure they only go up to Level 3, unless there has been a new classification system since I was pregnant. And savannah is right, with the right NICU a 24 weeker can thrive, and grow up to be as healthy as their peers within a few years.

I understand. I thought about posting something like this too. I have seen moms get to 34 weeks with PROM...
DH's step siblings (twins) were born at 25wks and survived. I am holding on to the hope, if they made it so will Jillian. (ETA: I am praying she stays in longer.)
Please use the term "viable" with caution. I "celebrated" my V-day and then went into labor a few days later unexpectedly. I believe that 24 weeks is better described as the point at which the little one is more able to receive available artificial support to survive until they develop into the size of a term baby. Just my experience.

Isn't that the very definition of "viability"?

I can't remember her little boy's name at the moment, but I think Ace had a micro-preemie. That's probably who bens is thinking of.
Let's try this again...
