Sleeping in a boppy......

Okay - so I feel like a TERRIBLE mom (not sure why), but I have allowed my girls to sleep (swaddled) in their boppies for the last few nights. It has been amazing. No more grunting, squirming, whimpering, etc.

They seem so comfortable because of the upper body elevation and perhaps because of the way the "arms" of the boppies wrap around them. I tried their sleep positioners for a few nights, which are slightly elevated, but they seemed just as uncomfortable in those as they do on their backs in the PNP.

Anyone else let their little ones sleep where they are most comfortable, or am I as insane and unfit as I feel, lol?????

Re: Sleeping in a boppy......

  • Gray naps in his boppy during the day when he's home with me... but I'm afraid to let him sleep at night in it- b/c he has always squiggled a lot and don't want him to fall inbetween and smother.

We have the head of his crib mattress elevated from underneath - so he's not totally flat (he has reflux).  He sleeps fine at night (has STTN since he was 8w).

Gibby LOVES to lay flat - it's funny- he prefers it to laying in a boppy- so i never had to deal with that issue with him! :)

How did you elevate the crib mattress, or did it come with that capability?

we have plywood boards under their mattresses (because they help with the Angelcare monitor and make it more accurate)... so we just rolled up a towel and put it under the board on Gray's bed - so it's a a slant.

At daycare they had some wedge/triangular type pillow they just stuck under his mattress when i asked about elevating it... it fit perfectly- so i'm assuming it's sold just for that reason - never looked into it, though.

  • When they were small (less than 2 months) they used to nap in the boppy all the time during the day if I was there, but I did not let them sleep unattended in it b/c like goldie said, I was afraid they'd squirm down and it would be unsafe.

If there is a lot of grunting etc you might want to explore the possibility of reflux. I also have wedges in my cribs- you can buy at BRU, it is a foam thing that just goes under the sheet on top of the mattress. I took it off DS's recently b/c he squirms off it within like 15 min of being put down and DD does too but not as quickly. But, I wish we'd gotten them earlier, they were already almost 3 months old when I got them.

  • My guys nap in their boppys during the day, and they sleep so contently. I thought I was being a bad mom too because on the side of the boppy their is a tag with a big "no sleep" symbol on it. But  I guess as long as they're being supervised it's ok. When I put them in their cradles at night they seem to sleep well, so I guess I'm lucky that way, they are good sleepers, but we'll see how things go once they're older. :)
  • We only let them take cat-naps in their boppies because I was too scared.

You could try their bouncers or swings.  I think some girls have also had luck with a device called a Nap Nanny.

  • both my kids slept in their boppies for the first 3-4 months.  They hated sleeping in the PNP.

You are not a bad mom!!

  • My girls slept in their boppies in their double pnp in our living room for the first 2 months but my husband and I slept in shifts so there was always someone hovering over them making sure they were ok. They did sleep really well but I dont know if I would have done it had one of us not been awake to constantly check on them.
