Trying to Get Pregnant

Update on blood work.

I received a call from the OB/GYN today and she said that my blood work came back normal. She figured at least my glucose would come back high and she would be able to prescribe medication to help, but not even that was bad. (Thank God, diabetes runs in the family and my dad has it.)

All of the hormone levels were normal, testosterone was a little high for a women but still normal. ::sighs::

So now I have made an appointment with the RE. The appointment is on the 31st of December to figure out my irregular bleeding and why I am not ovulating.

So frustrating.

Re: Update on blood work.

  • Good news on your blood work.  I hope your doctor can give you some answers as to why you aren't ovulating.  I bet its difficult to have to wait for a few weeks, but I'm sure it will be worth it.  I'm wishing the best for you.

It seems like you got some good news.  Are you happy with it or were you hoping they might find something to get the satisfaction of a diagnosis?

(hoping to not be intrusive, just curious)

You are fine. Yes and no on the happy part. I am glad for good news on the b.w results but just wished there was an answer from the tests instead of continuing  to find out what is wrong.

I just want to know what the source of the problem is and work on it. That's all, but I must be patient.

  • I'm sorry the blood work didn't give you any answers.
  • Blue, your situation sounds kinda similar to mine. I had a bunch of irregular bleeding, and was nearing the year mark of TTC. My bloodwork all came back normal as well, and my doc suggested Met&Clomid. I wasn't ready to get as serious as Clomid, but she said that the Met could help regulate my cycle. It did, as well as stop the random bleeding. I'm not saying this is the way to go for you, just throwin the idea out there.
  • Grr. I'm sorry that the b/w didn't clear up anything. That is pretty frustrating, but you are on the right track by seeing an RE. I'm pulling for you, Blue, and wish you good luck at your appointment :)
  • Hey Blue,

That is frustrating but in a way its good news right?  I hope they figure out what is wrong soon.

Makes me wonder about my PCOS diagnosis that I just got 3 weeks ago that was made my just looking at me. I am going for a second opinion with a new practice but can't be seen until Jan 25th.

I am hoping for the best for you!

I have been lurking on Infertility and reading up on Met. I would like to try it to get started. I am hesitating on the Clomid part too. For now I think I would like to get my cycles normal and work on losing weight before taking the big leap to Clomid.

I believe I still have time to have children and I don't want to resort to using Clomid right away since you can only have so much. I want to make sure I use other options before Clomid.

    Thank you, I appreciate it.

  • Hey Blue, catching up late over here (indulging in 1st tri drama).

I'm so sorry they still don't know what's up. I'm fearing another prog. shot Dec. 16th... I hope they figure something out that you can do.

Not Oing is very very frustrating!! Grr...

  • Absolutely hon. And those were my exact thoughts on Clomid, I just wasn't ready. Met helped with my cycle right away, and had the doctors not given me the side-eye when I was hospitalized ( no one understood why I was on Met and not diabetic) I never would have stopped it. I stopped Met in late June, and re-started it in August. I was blessed with this pregnancy in September, and while I'll never be sure if it was the Met, I know that at the very least, it sorted my cycle out. Good luck Blue. I'll be pulling for you. =)

Thank you. Were you ovulating while having these irregular cycles? That is great you never had to resort to using Clomid, that is what I hope for.

  • Sorry, I got swept away by the 1st tri saga. Good Christ! Anyway, the doc I was seeing said she believed I was O'ing, but I really don't know what she was basing it on. The two cycles I charted never showed a clear shift, and we never got to do the cd21 bloodwork, cause when I got to cd19 I started bleeding again. Even if I had been O-ing, it was too unpredictable and/or not strong enough to really be able to ttc. Once my cycles were back around 35-40 days, it was much easier to time sex and hope that I caught my O. It was exhausting, but it worked.
  • Best of luck, Blue. Hope you get a concrete answer sooner rather than later.
