Complete Placenta Previa!!!!! Please Pray!!!

Hello ladies,

I have a new concern. After another spotting episode, and a visit to my OB, it was discovered through a sonogram, that my placenta is laying across my cervix. This condition is called "Complete Previa". In adition to my previa, there is a thick blood vessel pumping blood through the placenta crossing my cervix as well. My OB doesn't want me spotting at all. So with that being said, my OB has taken me off of work on pelvic rest until Monday, because when I went to the bathroom tuesday morning and wiped, it was a light pink, but thank GOD it never returned. She doesn't want to take any chances on the vessel rupturing.  My OB also explained to me that a baby is not viablal until 24 weeks and that's why she's watching me so closely. I thank God that I have not experienced servere spotting, or bleeding. I am 13 weeks pregnant with my first child, my DH have been married for 6 1/2 yrs, and needed fertility to conceive...please pray! I have faith!

So, I'm thinking about asking my OB to keep me off of work until I reach 24 weeks (Feb 17th), or until my placenta moves. And if my placenta does not move, continue my pelvic rest until...

 Any advice?

Re: Complete Placenta Previa!!!!! Please Pray!!!

  • My bff had placenta previa with her first child. He was born a week early and is completely healthy 2 yr old. She did have bleeding throughout her entire pregnancy and was in and out of the hospital so they could watch the bleeding. She had to have a c-sec with #1 and with #2. I am sure it's very stressful, but hang in there.

I don't know everything about it, but I do know they didn't diagnose her with 'complete' placenta previa until the baby was much to big and there was no way the placenta could move anymore. From what she told me when she was in her 2nd trimester, her doc. kept telling her the placenta is likely to move as the baby gets bigger so in my experience, I'm not sure how they diagnosed you with 'complete' since you are only 13 weeks. Did they tell you the placenta may move as the baby gets bigger?

  • I had a partial previa up until about 26 weeks and it did correct itself. My OB and my high risk dr. werent going to be too concerned about it until further in my pregnancy if it didnt correct itself. You being so early it could still correct itself and hopefully it will. I did have heavy bleeding at about 29 weeks and they first thought it was from the previa that hadnt actually corrected itself like they thought but it was from a placental abruption not the previa. I am sorry you are going thru this and I will keep you in my prayers. Having a complicated pregnancy really sucks but try to stay positive.
  • I had placenta previa with #2 that didn't move until 32 or 33 weeks. I was put on pelvic rest at 18 weeks and later on it became modified bed rest. Take it easy. The farther along I got in my pregnancy, the pelvic rest didn't seem to be enough, which is why my OB eventually put me on modified, because even with pelvic rest it was causing spotting. Of course, I had a 4 year old I was keeping up with, so I'd be willing to bet that had something to do with it. Placenta previa is very common. Try not to stress about it and just listen to your doctor and your body.
  • T & P's your way.  You might want to post this on the High Risk Board.  I was on there when I was on bedrest for short cervix and there are a bunch of wonderful women over there.  There are also quite a few with Placenta Previa so they may be able to enlighten you.  Good luck!
