Moms with 2 or more kids -- a telling work Q

Were you able to wait as long to tell work with your second pregnancy as your first?  With my first, I waited until 14 weeks and wasn't showing hardly at all.  This time, I am feeling bigger than that already, and I'm only 8 weeks.  I have a Bella Band on today, and this morning, I looked poochy.  It has been bloat-city the last week, but this morning, I look more "pregnant."   I can't wear bulky clothes that often, either.  I put a sweater on today since it's Friday, but this is really a suit environment.

Ideally, I'd like to wait until after a big arbitration I have the second week of January and my annual review, but that would put me at almost 15 weeks.  Any chance of hiding it that long?

  • I told about 14 weeks the second time.  I work long clothes but not too bulky.  I work with a lot of men and they don't really suspect like women do and if they did, they'd be too embarrassed to ask.

  • I told work at 10 weeks. Of course, I thought I was HUGE but when I look back at pictures, I wasn't really showing till about 16-17 weeks. I think you see it more than other people.

  • This time of year (ie thick sweaters) maybe.

I told people at 10 weeks with DS, there was NO hiding it. People had been guessing/talking for a couple of weeks already.

  • I waited this time to officially tell until around 13 wks b/c I'd told earlier last winter and ended up w/ a m/c. But my supervisor really already knew- I'd had co-workers guess at 7 wks b/c I had a little pooch (I'm tiny so it's obvious if something's different) plus I was snacking a lot. But we're a tight knit group so it wasn't a big deal- they were super happy for me. I was really starting to show around 13/14 wks but it was also summer so I had more form fitting t-shirts on (I run a summer program so it's a bit casual since we're sprinting around campus).

Since it's winter you can probably pull it off w/ baggy clothes but it's not like it's their business anyway. I think you should tell whenever you're most comfortable- it's a personal choice.

  • watching this thread... :)  I'm only 5w along, so I'll just have to see.  I'll probably tell around 13-14w too, though I'm small and it might be obvious.  I didn't show for a long time with DD, though, so maybe...?
  • I told 14wks both times.  This time I regretted it.  Even though I felt as big as a house, no one seemed to notice (strategic clothing).  I shocked everyone. AND I told before the review process was complete, not that it matters as I was just promoted mid-cycle.

  • I think I made it until 16 weeks before I told, but I didn't really "show" as much as I "swelled".  I am a yo-yo with my weight anyway, so people just thought I was putting on weight.
  • I work from home, so it was easy to hide Smile

But I did have a business trip at 13 weeks, and no one guessed that I was pregnant. I wasn't trying to hide it, as I had already told my boss and some of my co-workers had found out as well, but it wasn't super-obvious or anything. And that was in the middle of summer (July). With baggy winter clothes, I think I easily could've made it to 15 weeks.

  • It might be worth it to invest in a suit or two a size (or two) up to help you hid it through your arbitration (and for your comfort too).  You should be ok.  Even if they're speculating, would anyone actually ask you?

Also, this is bad, but this time of year lots of people put on a few pounds so it might not be as suspicious.

ETA: You could also be able to get away with more casual clothes for the next month too, since it's the holidays.

  • Thanks, everybody for the responses and advice!  I'm holding out as long as I can. :)
