Some co-workers at my work constantly berrate another co-worker of mine who has decided to BF her son until he's 3. They say it's gross...etc. I was just wondering.... for people who plan for their LO to get BM for longer than a year would you consider it gross if the mother was simply EPing? Is it the boob to toddler thing that grosses people out or the fact that the child is getting BM past age 1, 2, 3, 4...?
My opinion, since I EP is that I am hoping to be done and weaned by Jan 1, since we have a huge frozen supply to last us until DD's 1st bday. But if someone doesn't mind EPing that long (to like age 3) I don't think it's really super gross. For me it's more of a boob to kid thing that weirds me out and why I wouldn't do it.
Re: Your opinion on BFing/EPing past first bday?
Yeah they are total beyotches, I agree 100%. They don't believe in BFing at all, but they really get on her for the age 3 thing.
I'm getting ready to stop EPing because I've built up enough of a freezer stash to make it to a year, but I don't think it's gross at all to continue.
I also see nothing wrong with BFing until age three. If nursing had worked out fo me, I fully intended to BF until E was 3 or until she self weaned, whichever came first.
ETA: I also think it's insane that your coworkers feel that it's any of their business when she weans, and I find it outrageous that they actually comment aloud about it. Why on earth do they care?
I plan to nurse DS past his birthday, though not until he's 3. I'm thinking morning and night for a while, maybe until 18 months or so, I'll follow his lead.
I think people that are grossed out by it feel that way about a toddler being at the boob, not the actual milk.
