Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Those who have LO who arrived a bit early

DD was born at 36 weeks and I know she could be a month behind on her milestones.  I was just wondering, are your LO behind on milestones?  I know they can be, but wondering overall what the general experience was/is.  Yes, I know every child is different, just looking for your experiences.

  • DD was born at 37 wks and she seems pretty on track though she isnt rolling consistently. She did it once and wasn't happy about it.

  • DD arrived a few days prior to 36 weeks - my OB said I was 36 weeks but after my c/s (I went into labor and they took her) then said she was measuring 35 weeks.

I don't *think* she's behind but then again, I haven't been studying up on my What to Expect the First Year book with her =)

She's not rolling. Absolutely hates tummy time, as did DS though....so nothing new there.

She's such a chill baby - content to sit, so I make extra sure I get her active as much as I can.

  • Gianna was 36 weeks too.  She's a little behind in some areas and on track in others.  For instance, she's now in her 4 month wakeful period.  She is about to roll over back to belly and she isn't anywhere near sitting or tripoding yet.  She's fascinated by her hands and really grabbing at things.  She smiled and laughed a little later than others here on the board.  Regardless, she's still on track because the milestones have a wide time range, so I don't really think she's behind.  Just not ahead.

    They are just too cute!

  • My LO was born at exactly 37 weeks. She is very verbal and smiled on time or early, but she has not rolled belly to back and the two times she did back to belly I think it was an accident. She also is not sitting or tripoding and I found she was a little behind on neck control.

  • My DS seems to be a little behind on his motor skills and advance on his vocal skills IMO.  I was really nervous about it but my mom told me that when they are born early they tend to take a little longer to do things (i.e. my DS was born at 37 weeks and she thinks he will be about 2-3 weeks slower).  I thought she was saying this so I wouldnt worry but now that I am reading this I guess maybe she might be right.  My DS has torticollis so he is going to his physical therapy evaluation on Monday so I guess we will see then if he is delayed or not.  In my interview portion the Counselor was explaining that according to their chart and my responses to her questions he seems a little delayed in motor skills and since he babbles a lot (DS) he is probably advance in verbal skills.  She explained to me that most babies are advance in one thing and may have a slight delay in another and she thinks this is his case.

  • DS was born at 37 weeks. I was worried he'd be behind but I think he's hitting the milestones on time. Or at least it's not noticeable if he's behind.

  • J was only 10 days early, so not really sure if we count, but he can roll from tummy to back and is babbling up a storm. He is nowhere near sitting up by himself and hates his rice cereal and just spits it out...

  • My girls were 6 1/2 weeks early and are VERY vocal but they are not rolling, sitting, tripoding.  But lay them on their backs and their little legs kick like crazy.  They are definitely going to be behind on milestones.
