Hair on an ultrasound?!?

I went in for a growth ultrasound. ? While the tech was scanning baby's head, she told us that the baby had a lot of hair. ?You could see fuzzy stuff that looked like grass coming off the top of the baby's head while she was scanning. ?She seems pretty knowledgeable about her stuff, but I've never heard anything about being able to see hair in an ultrasound. ??

Did anyone else have this happen??

Yep! They told us our little girl had a full head of hair (looked like a white halo around her head in the photo). I'm just dying to see what color it is (I was born with a head full of dark brown hair and my DH with platinum blonde!)

Yep. With DD the tech took one look and asked if I had a lot of heartburn, because I had "one hairy little baby in there"

this happened to us as well at our 31 wk growth scan, I didn't realize they could see hair either, but LO looks like he has a head of spikey hair!

Yes ma'am. My sister's u/s show that her kid has hair that is longer in the back and thinner on top, like an old man lol. When I was pregnant with DS we had to have u/s because of kidney stuff, and they could tell that he had just a tiny bit of peach fuzz, which he did when he was born.

No but my previous 2 were born with almost NO hair. DS had a military crew cut!!! lol

Just curious, OP and PPs - Were these 3D/4D ultrasounds or just the regular 2D ones?

Not on mine, but I've seen it on friends'. It looks strange, and sort of glowy, like a halo.

At my last ultrasound they didn't mention any hair. But she also had a problem measuring his head because he was so low in my pelvis.

But I would imagine you could see hair. We seen little particles floating around in the amniotic fluid when she was measuring fluid. Looked kinda like a pond with all the floating stuff in it. Weird!

This was a regular 2d scan. ?My daughter was uncooperative during our 3D and we couldn't see parts of her head.

Just our regular 2d scans. Neither my sister nor myself have had a 3d/4d scan done.

When we did the 4D we could actually see his hairline. In one of the pictures she pointed out the fuzzies spiking off of his head. I'm not sure how accurate it is to texture though. I have pretty straight hair and DH has curly, his hair looked straight from the fuzzies picture.

This! It was on a 2D machine and a rather old one at that.

I had a 3d/4d ultrasound at 30 weeks and the lady said it looked like he had some hair too.

Yes, at our last ultrasound at like 32 weeks, the tech commented that baby had a headful of hair. I was so surprised that we could see it on a regular ultrasound! I guess at the later ones, there baby is big enough to see details like that.

I was thinking this same thing once.. with one of my 3D u/s's i thought that the top of her head had somewhat of a shadow.. and i was wondering if it was hair i was seeing

I'll have to look at our ultrasounds now. Our U/S techs haven't said anything, but I have had a lot of heart burn.

I was born needing a hairdresser and mousse, and my husband is Greek, so he's very hairy ... I have been just assuming that DD is going to have a thick head of hair. But now I will have to double check the ultrasounds when I get home.

We could see hair at our 28 week 2d u/s. So cool! I was born with a head full of black hair (that quickly turned blonde), so I'm excited to see what our LO will be born with. It sure explains the reflux I've had Smile

I had my 3D/4D at 29 weeks and the tech kept going back from 3 to 4 D and it was in the 3D that you could see the hair. Our baby has a lot of it and sure enough I suffer from terrible heartburn.

Yep. My DD was born with a headful of black hair. During one of the u/s the tech commented that we should bring barrettes to the delivery. Is was very obvious....even to us. I was surprised as I never had a day of heartburn.
