Postpartum Depression

Anybody with late onset PPD?

I went to the doctor two weeks at DH's urging after he's noticed my moodiness, temper, and general sadness.  I've been like this for the last 4-6 weeks (can't pinpoint exactly, just kind of gradually creeped up on me).

My GP gave me some suggestions about how to try to combat this without meds for now.  I'm totally cool with this, as is DH. He tells me if I get worse at all or don't improve, to come back in and we'll discuss other options.

Anyone else with late (after 3 months) onset?

  • I think it is not uncommon for people to develop it after a few months.  At first you are so happy and in love with your new baby that it covers up the emotional unbalance, but then as things settle down, these feelings surface.  I hope the non medication route helps (I know exercise has helped me with depression in the past) but if you start feeling really bad or have bad feeling towards your lo, then it's time to talk to your doctor again.

  • I have it...after I went back to work and all the baby responsibilities combined with the "real" me, it hit me pretty hard...
  • I haven't been to the dr to officially be dx but I'm pretty sure I have it and I just noticed it within the last month or two. So yep I think it's possible.

This almost exactly!  I've just started realizing that this could be PPD/A in the last few days!

  • It was almost 4 months exactly when it set in for me.  PPD can set in anytime during the first few years.  The sooner you notice it the sooner you can take care of it.  Good luck!

  • I was diagnosed at a year pp.  I was shocked that I could have it that late, but it's possible.
