Have you done "cash for gold"?

How does that all work? Like what if there is a stone in there, do they pay you for that too?

I have some pretty heinous shiit I've been given over the years...might as well get a deal out of it now that gold is crazy high...

Re: Have you done "cash for gold"?

  • I have been invited to a cash for gold party.... they do give you cash. I'm not sure how that works for just one person. Can you look it up online?

  • I've never done it, but everything I read says go to a local place and do it. They rip you off at that place.
  • A girl I work with just had one of the parties.  They told you what it was worth and woudl give you cash if you wanted to sell.  They took stones out and gave that back.  Some girls made some pretty good cash.

  • That's got to be a scam.  I'm pretty sure I read that it was a scam.

Plus, I'm sure you get the bad end of the bargain, otherwise why would they do it.

  • My MIL went to a party and not sure what they did about things with stones in them but I know she got quite a bit of money for things that were 20 years old and not very valuable in the first place
  • A friend of my mom's got a gold necklace from her ex that was almost $300. She sent it in and a few days later...got $3.95 back.

EXACTLY! Find a local jewler who buys gold.

For reasons not worth going in to here, DH had some of an ex-gf's jewelery. He "stored" it for 10 years and when he lost contact with her and she never gave an address shipping for it, he decided to sell it.

It was crap stuff...little rings some with stones, broken chains, bracelets, single earrings. $1800 was a fair price for 10 years of storage!

  • Oh and she went to a party, not the website.  So I'm sure it's probably different.  You can maybe look into hosting a party
  • Well my dad used to own a jewelry store, and he'd always buy peoples gold so he could melt it down.  I don't know about other places that do such things.

  • I hosted a gold party last December and I made 550 bucks selling my cheapy old stuff.  As a host I made $1,000!
