Trouble TTC

Newbie and HSG question

Hi,

I am new to the bump boards.  DH and I have been trying for about 8 months are both 28, I have been actively charting for 5 cycles and have had some tests done. DH had a SA which came out fine and I just had an u/s which was okay too.  We started a round of clomid this cycle too.  My OB doesn't think I am ovulating as strong as I could be.  She called today and told me I should also get a HSG test done....any advice on that??  She also recommended that we see a RE but when I called my ins. they denied because they said we haven't been trying for over a year, under 35, and the test haven't shown anything really "wrong" yet.  Not that I want anything to be wrong believe me, but my doc is recommending it so that they can monitor me more closely than she can and I am really frustrated with my ins.  they said I could try to fight it because my doc is refering me to the RE.

So that is my story...thanks for letting me join the board and any advice you have for me on the HSG would be great!  Thanks again!!!

Re: Newbie and HSG question

  • Welcome!  I am sorry you're having trouble with insurance company.  As far as the HSG goes, I would follow your OB's suggestion and have an HSG done.  It is a dye test of uterus and ovaries that they use to find out if there are any blockages, etc in your tubes or anything visibly wrong.  Most RE's will make you do an HSG before they'll start you on Clomid, because if you have a blocked tube or something, then Clomid is not going to help at all.  I hope everything works out with your insurance.  We've only been "trying" for 6 months and are seeing an RE, but that is because I was not ovulating or getting my period at all after birth control and have since been diagnosed with PCOS.  Good luck!!

  • I would recommend doing the HSG to help rule out any other indications of infertility.  I must warn you though that I foudn the procedure to be VERY painful.  The minor cramping the internet explains is nothing of which I experienced.  I would discuss taking some form of tylenol or pain medication with your doctor prior to the procedure.

  • This may be a random question, but is it a common occurrence to stop getting one's period after going off BCP? I was on BCP for approximately 2 years and everything was fine. Then due to a change in our insurance, and getting married, I never got my prescription renewed and went off BCP. Within the first cycle after going off, I stopped getting my period. It was not until like 4 months later that I was diagnosed with PCOS and that was after I was rushed to the hospital with a ruptured cyst.

Thanks for any info you all may provide and good luck to you all!
