1st Trimester

I wonder....**edited**

Ok, so if you know my back story, I had an ultrasound yesterday, things don't look great. Anyway, when we were there, I saw the gestational sac and the yolk sac and there was something else in the gestational sac and the nurse said "I don't know what that is". It was smaller than the yolk sac, but not much.

Edited: Since it was so early, the couldn't tell me anything for sure. I'm wondering if there's a possibility that it's twins (they run in my family).

ETA: I just called my MW to ask her, waiting on a call back.

Dec 14. I'm thinking of calling my MW and asking her to look at my u/s pics she got and tell me what she thinks it is. I'm going to be thinking about it this whole time.

  • Wow.  I love hopeful news.  Sending T&Ps to you and hoping your twins are doing fine.
  • Wow! I would be going crazy too :p well you only have another week :) hopefully it passes by quickly!
  • Seriously?

Seriously what? No I'm not faking it if that's what you're asking. The Tech said it could be the start of the fetal pole, but she didn't know for sure. I'm thinking of calling my MW to see if she still has the pics and can give me an idea.

    Me confused??

  • It's not impossible, but it's really, really unlikely.

Fraternal twins (they come from two eggs) run in families, at which you would have seen two gestational sacs. Identical twins are not genetic, but you most likely would have seen more than than three things in the sac.

And you said yesterday you were measuring a week behind, your levels weren't that high, and you were cramping and spotting. Your post today doesn't make any sense in context to what's went on yesterday.

Strange things happen every day, and maybe you'll prove me wrong. But I think you are stretching. Whatever the case, I hope it's a positive outcome. GL.

I didn't know that identical weren't hereditary. Fraternal is what runs in my family though.

With measuring behind. My MW is trying to stay hopeful that my dates were off or something and says there's a chance it's still a viable pregnancy. The levels thing confuses the crap out of me. Most websites and my MW say it should double every 48 hours, but others say it can take as long as 72 hours as the pregnancy gets later and later.

If I were doubling every 48, my levels (starting from 29 3ish weeks ago) should be around 40,000 but if it were every 72 they should be ~20,000. I was 27,950.

I think my MW is trying to play it safe and not tell me one way or another. But hearing that I had a small hemorrhage in there (which apparently could have been the dot) meant that is what could have caused the spotting. But I don't know why there'd still be a dot if the hemorrhage was over.

I probably am stretching, but I'm just trying to look at it from all angles. If you didn't read my above post, they said it's a singleton pregnancy. I just thought it was so weird that my u/s looked like the one I found.

I wish I would have asked for a picture of it. It'd make more sense that way.

You can't compare u/s pictures to others, just like you can't compare pregnancies.

Your betas are seem good (and after they hit 6000 or so it can take up to 96 hours to dbl), but at this point it's really the u/s that tells the whole story. Usually ER machines and techs aren't as good or thorough, so you have reason to remain optimistic. Again, GL.

Thanks. I know I shouldn't but so many things go through my head.

We're trying to stay hopeful. GL with yours too!

  • This is why my OB doesn't do early u/s. Always confusing/scary.

I'm not even getting an NT scan with this pregnancy because last time when I did they saw a cyst and it turned into some gigantic big deal the whole rest of the pregnancy when really everything was fine. However, at 16 weeks I am finding out the sex of this thing! :)
