Okay, so my BMI is 31.6. I'm overweight, i know it. I'm 5'4" and weigh 183. I wear a size 14 in pants and XL in shirts because of my boobs, which refuse to get smaller. I refuse to say i'm obese because I really feel like BMI is a useless measurement. It doesn't take muscle mass into account, and it doesn't care about your frame or weight distribution. I need to lose another 30 pounds (i've already lost 60).

My RE said that because of my BMI, i can only do my SQ's in the backs of my arms, which I can't do myself... so, tomorrow i'm going to beg him to let me do them either in my abdomen or thighs.

Where does your RE let you do your SQ injections?

I do mine in my stomach and my RE is the one who told me where to do it. I weigh around what you do and have never been told this. I am on my 2nd IVF currently. Good Luck.

I'm between 5'4" and 5'5", much heavier than you, and was always told to do my injections in my lower tummy. I also carry most of my weight in my stomach. My RE always stressed to me that weight really didn't have an impact on IVF though.

I am sorry but that is a little crazy to me. I weigh about 40 more lbs than you and while the RE certainly suggested I lose weight for obvious reasons, he never said I had to do my injections anywhere else besides my abdomen. I have also responded to the stims very well (see my sig, I am on my 3rd IVF!)

Perhaps it is just his protocol and he is being extra cautious? All REs are different but still. Injecting in the arm is not something you can do by yourself. You have to plead your case to him!

Good luck - I hope he comes to his senses.

PS- I have seen several ladies get pg via IVF at my clinic who are MUCH heavier than me...

Really? They never said a thing to me about my weight, and my BMI is higher than yours. I responded fine to stims and made good eggs and injected them all in my stomach.

Well, I'm 5'4 and I weigh a little more than you and I got a BFP today and I did my stims in my stomach. My doctor also recommend I lose weight since it's easier to carry a baby the less you weigh, and because the drugs might be less effective (diluting them) but never recommended I use the stims anywhere but my stomach.

I am triple the size of you (literally) and my RE and nurse told me to do either stomach or upper thigh. I have only done the ovidrel shot though so it may be different? My RE has never said anything about my weight, in fact I brought it up not him, and he said he didn't consider it a factor. Though I am trying to lose weight.

First, congrats on an already amazing weight loss! 60 pounds is no small feat!!

Second, I weigh much more than you and always did my shots in my stomach. It gets where it needs to go, fat and all! Good luck pleading your case. Did he say WHY he doesn't want to do the stomach with your BMI?
