Postpartum Depression

Traumatic birth experiences and PPD/A & PTSD

Hi ladies -

17 months ago, I had a pretty traumatic birth experience.  I am still healing emotionally from it (especially with all the new feelings that come along with a new pregnancy and fears about this birth).  Long story short - I had your classic cascade of interventions (with plenty of fear-mongering and manipulation from my OB team) leading to a bad surgical experience and difficult physical and emotional recovery (including PTSD).

Anyway... I hope that this doesn't come off as condescending, especially since I'm not currently dealing with "active" PPD... but I do want to offer a willing ear to anyone with an unhappy birth experience.  For me, being able to express my feelings and being allowed to experience my feelings without judgment was always very helpful, but judgment-free outlets were often difficult to find.

I'm so glad this board has been created.   I hope the Bump Gods make it permanent (AND EASY TO FIND... really? a sub-board of health & exercise?!)  I think a supportive place like this will do great things for the community.

Best to all.

  • Thank you! I'm glad that you are feeling better and it is always nice to have people around that have experienced it and healed from it. Kind of gives me hope that I can get over this as well.
