Hi Everyone,
Just found your part of the Bump. Thanks for being here. I have just gone through and read some of the earlier posts about IC, if there are more success stories would love to hear ![]()
Had a disturbing Dr. appt. and looking for some reassurance and positive stories, thoughts and prayers welcomed too:)
At my appointment, my cervix measured 2.5 cm. It was explained to me that a typical "normal" pregnancy it measures 5 cm, it reduces in size as you progress through your pregnancy. 2.5 is very short for being almost 22 weeks.
I have now been put on modified bed rest in hopes of keeping it at 2.5. If it shrinks further, I am in for a cerclage, full bedrest for the remainder of the pregnancy.
I am typing from bed, feet up, not walking, doing yoga anymore or anything remotely active. Canceled my business trip for next week and will be working from home for the remainder of my pregnancy.
Thanks for any help, suggestions, etc...
Thanks for being there too!
Re: xpost from Pregnant over 35/ Incompetent Cervix ?
Thank you both! Can you share any symptoms that you had? I am starting to think that every twinge means the cervix is getting shorter!
Hi there! Sorry that you are dealing w/IC. At 18.5 weeks I measured 2.3, which held for 5 weeks. I was on modified bedrest at home with only time up for preparing quick meals , bathroom breaks and quick showers. I was experiencing what I thought was BH so I went to L&D to be monitored. Turns out I was experiencing an irritable uterus. I was given a shot of terbuline(sp?) which worked and then prescribed endocin (sp?) for 72 hours and then could take Procardia at home. After the monitoringof my uterus, my cervix was measured and it went down from 2.3 to 1.5 within a week. So I was immediately admitted into the hospital. I am currently 24 weeks and it looks like I could be in the hospital for the remainder of my pregnancy.
I am slowly adjusting to my new surroundings. I am trying to stay postive and hang on to the sucess stories I hear and read. Make sure you take it very easy and drink lots of water. I had no real symptoms so make sure you go for weekly ultra sounds. Good luck to you and your little one.
This is my second pregnancy and second cerclage. With my first, I had am emergent cerclage placed at 23w3d due to my cervix being short 2.1, with funneling and contractions. It went all the way down to 1.4 at some point in my pregnancy. But I was on strict bedrest for 4 months. It was hard but I delivered DS at 38 weeks completely healthy!
This time around I got my cerclage preventatively at 14 weeks and my cervix has stayed long, anywhere from 3.0-4.8. I was just recently removed from work but it had nothing to do with my contractions, I am just having a lot of contractions due to PTL. My suggestion would be get a cerclage ASAP! I really believe that is what saved DS and you don't want to wait too long. Drs. will NOT do it after 24 weeks and my OB originally said no to my first because I was so far along but my perinatologist insisted. Definitely take it way easy and follow drs orders. Good luck!
I am having my 4th cerclage baby!!! So yes there are quite a few of us success stories! I had 2 second trimester losses before being diagnosed with IC.
With my first cerclage pregnancy I was scared to death and went through bouts of preterm labor and having to have my cerclage removed early because my cervix opened with the stitch still in place. But at 36 weeks I gave birth to a 7 lb 14 oz boy
. I've gone on to have a daughter and a son. And I am now pregnant with my last. I just had my cerclage placed 3 days ago, an now that the cramping is over I feel fine.
Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Just try to stay positive! You can do this!
Hi there,
I measured at 2.7! have to go back in two weeks to see if it has gotten any smaller.
so, i hear you. I feel freaked out as of now, but Dr. says not to worry until we are sure it is shrinking or if its just that size.
stay at 2.7 cervix!
I'm sorry that you are having to deal with an IC. I wanted to share my success story with you.
I was diagnosed with an IC after going into PTL @ 22 weeks. I was not able to get a cerclage due to the PTL. I was placed on strict bed rest, I got the beta methazone shots at 24 weeks & then had to get P17 shots weekly. I did develop High BP & GD, but that probably would have happened. I was hospitalized 4 time with PTL, but With the bed rest my cervix held strong till 30 weeks then I it started shortening, by 35 week I was 3cm & 100% effaced. I delivered my LO at 35 weeks 3 days.
He is home & doing great. Its great that you are getting the cerclage, that along with the bed rest should get you to full term. If you have any other question's I would be happy to answer. GL with you PG.
My cervix measured 2.8 cm at 22 weeks. It was monitored bi-weekly until 30 weeks when it was measuring 1.8 with funneling. At that point they stopped monitoring and gave me beta methezone shots to help mature my baby's lungs.
I delivered at 35w4d when my water broke. She was perfectly healthy (just tiny at 5 pounds 1 ounce) and came home with me after 3 days in the hospital. No NICU time.
I was on modified bedrest the whole time. I worked (desk job) until the day I delivered her.
When I get pregnant again I am going to ask about cerclage and P17 shots. I'm not sure if what I had is considered IC (my peri never diagnosed it as such) but it was definitely scary!! Good luck to you!!
