Hysteroscopy Scheduled...I have questions!

Well, I just got off the phone with my nurse. My Doc wants to do a hysteroscopy. She sounded kind of excited. She says she agrees and thinks it is a very good idea. I am scheduled for surgery January 8. So tell me about it...I figure it is quite simple. It will be done at a hospital and I will be asleep. I figure he will do a biopsy if he sees anything. Any pain after wards? I'm sure there will be bleeding. I forgot to ask my nurse this....How long after surgery do you have to wait before you can start another cycle? Anything else I need to know?I just looked and Jan. 8 happens to fall on a friday. That seems easy enough!

Re: Hysteroscopy Scheduled...I have questions!

  • I was also sedated when I had mine (twilight) and that way they can also remove any polyps, fibroids, or anything else they might find in there at the same time.  I bled a little after, probably a few days but not heavy.  My RE also scraped up my lining hoping to aid implantation for the next cycle.  I was able to cycle after I got my next AF.

    Good luck!

  • I had one in august...I didn't really have any pain or bleeding...it was pretty easy. We were able to cycle the next month. Let me know if you have any questions.

  • I had mine done at the end of August and my RE said if my body was ready we could cycle right away... mine was not, so I had to sit one entire cycle out and then did an IUI on my 2nd and now IVF on my third.

It was not painful at all, and I only lightly spotted. My procedure was very different, as I did not really have anything (fibroids, polyps, endo) but instead my RE poked a zillion holes in my ovaries to release excessive amts of hormones.

    Good luck!

  • I had one in Aug. and the surgery was quick and easy. It was very painful to pee after for a day or two. The first few pee's were the worst. I was doing a FET after and had to wait about a month and a half before transfer.

I hope it goes well for you, sending T&P's!!

  • I had one in August, also.  It wasn't bad at all.  I had no cramping and just light bleeding for maybe a day.  I had polyps removed and a gentle D&C to remove one layer for testing.  I rested for the remainder of that day and most of the next.  DH and I had to sign paperwork stating that I would not drive or do much walking or lifting for 24 hours.  This was because the anesthesia may not have worn off until then.

  • I had two, one in July and one in August as a follow-up to make sure everything was healed. Both were done with me completely under, so they could fix anything they found.

My first one ended up operative as they found a septum and resected it. I was put on estrace and then provera so I could build up my lining and heal, and we cancelled my upcoming cycle. They wanted the follow-up first (my Re is very conservative.) I bled pretty much constantly following it, for about two-three weeks but felt ok by and large (plus, my body hated the birth control I was on before the procedure so it objected to all the messing with my hormones). I was a bit run-down for about 4 days or so afterwards, but suspect that was more because of the surgery aspect of it than anything else.

The one in August was quick and easy, and all clear.  Oddly, I felt a bit worse following the second one, but I think the doctor who did it was a little rougher. I was more constipated and bloated following the second one.

I could have cycled in September following the August one if I'd wanted to, we just delayed it due to my job.
