Re: will you sterilize ALL bottles ect?

  • No... I don't know if I'm just out of the loop or what, but I don't plan to sterilize bottles. My mom never did, she just washed them. I thought I'd do the same, unless there is something I don't know about bottle germs??
  • Loading the player...
  • Stick them in the dishwasher and call it a day.
  • with DS I just threw them in the dishwasher
not that it mattered because he would NEVER take a bottle
I think he has had about 2oz by bottle his entire young life.

I plan on buying bottles for the next baby but I am not taking many out of the package ahead of time just incase I run into this problem again.

  • Do you mean the first time?  I boiled everything when I opened the packages, but in between uses I just washed in the sink with soap and water and put on the drying rack to air dry.  We boiled DD's pacifiers every other week, but never boiled bottles again.

I'll probably boil everything again before this baby uses them, since they've just been sitting in a box.

  • Oh - not sure if you'll read this in time but I wouldn't open the pump till you're sure nursing is working out.  You can't return them if the seal is broken.  I have friends who bought pumps only to return them because for one reason or another nursing didn't work out.

You won't need to pump for the first few weeks, and newborns nap ALOT so you'll have time to boil the pump parts after LO arrives :)

  • You should sterilize everything before the first use.  I sterilize her bottles and pacifiers once every 2 weeks now and just wash with hot water and soap after each use.

    1st pregnancy: m/c began 1/12/09 d&c 1/13/09 8wks. Baby stopped growing at about 6wks.

    Delaney: Born 10/15/09

    Gavin: Born 4/8/11

    Baby #3: due July 10, 2014

  • Everything I've read says that the dishwasher is sufficient for sterilizing. If you feel better about it you could boil it the first time. I didn't, but I say go for it if it's what you want to do. The only thing I boil is pacifiers but that's only because they get dropped on the floor, touched by people's fingers, etc.

  • So, you ladies that sterilize.....do you have an actual bottle sterilizer or just put them in boiling water?
