Postpartum Depression

Where to start when you know something is wrong?

I think I might have slight PPD. I just don't feel like myself. I can't seem to get my emotions in order.

Where did you start to look for help? I have talked to my dh and he thinks I should call my midwife or my dr but to be totally honest I am embarassed about it and wouldn't feel comfortable talking to anyone that I already "know".

WWYD?

  • Don't be embarrassed - this is more common that you think! Call your OB - you won't be the first! She can help you/refer you to another doc.

    Good luck!

  • Definitely call your OB/MW.  When I finally did call, I was in their office within the day, met with the NP for over an hour, and within 2 days - I was getting the help I needed.  This is not something to be ashamed of or embarrassed about.  It is not your fault.
  • Call and make an appointment, if not with your OB/MW, then with your family physician. Try not be embrassed either. Sadly it's totally normal to feel like this after childbirth and why suffer when there is help for you. Good luck!
  • Talk to your midwife or OB!

My Ob was soooo helpful when I met with him. He was awesome! I am so glad I saw him & got treatment.
  • I felt the exact same way, I didn't even want to say to my DH that I thought I may have it and when I finally told him I burst into tears, I felt like I was admitting more failure by saying I thought I had it... I know you feel like it's feaux paux or taboo but honestly it's soooo common and all of the OB's in the world deal with this on a DAILY basis. You're not unique and no one is going to judge you. Don't be afraid to reach out, it's the only way to get you feeling back to normal, to enjoy your baby, and to cherish these times that you'll never get back ever, so it is more than worth it to get the help!!

  • I just mentioned something to my doctor and they gave me a survey with a whole bunch of questions. I realized I was answering yes to a lot more than I thought I would.

I shared it with my SO and he was so surprised at some of the wording, but then he told me that he knew something was off. It's a start I suppose....
