Infertility

Back from RE and OHSS

I went in today for my progesterone check following last week's IUI and for abdominal pain.  I have two large cysts on my right ovary and one on my left.  The good news is that my body responded really well to the clomid.  The bad news is that I'm on bedrest until Sunday because my right ovary is very large.  And, I had to call my boss and tell him what was going on.  I've been private about IF.  Thankfully he was very understanding.

The RE told me to drink lots of gatorade and smart water (not regular water).  Any other suggestions or advice?  If you had OHSS what was your experience like?

TIA

  • I don't have experience with OHSS but am wishing you a speedy recovery.  Poor ovaries.

Also, my RE told me that increasing your salt intake can help get the fluid out of your abdomen. It's a great excuse to eat chips and Ramen Noodles!

I had OHSS develop after my retrieval for IVF. I'm not going to lie, it was miserable. I had to eventually get fluid drained from my abdomen and I was on bed rest for a week.

Definitely take it easy. Drink lots of gatorade and eat lots of salty foods. I ate canned soup most days because it was extra fluid and super salty. Once I had the procedure to remove the fluid, I felt better instantly and felt almost back to normal a week later.

  • Like everyone else said, lots of salty foods.  I ate ramen noodles everyday for a week after my ER ( I can't even look at them now!)  I also splurged and had McDonald's french fries a couple of times too.  I try to never eat them but thought I had a good excuse :)

I also heard that protein is good too.

Also gatorade or anything with electrolytes if you don't like gatorade

I hope that you feel better very soon!!!

  • Thanks for the feedback and all the well wishes.  It will actually be kind of nice to get to indulge in salty foods (my fav) since I usually stay away from salt.
