This is a list of women who are dealing with PCOS. Anyone can join in, so let me know if you want to be on this list! We can keep track of everyone?s cycle, offer advice, and support for each other. We check in every Tuesday and Thursday, and the check-ins can always be found in the PCOSbio.
Good luck and lots of sticky baby dust to everyone!

Re: ~*~*~ PCOS Check-In ~*~*~ SAIFW
Update: BFFN this morning...waiting for AF
QOTD: I have no insight...I've wondered the same thing for myself. I'm interested in people's thoughts on this as well.
For this child I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him.
1 Samuel 1:27
DX PCOS
Success with #1 after Femara + Trigger + IUI
Update: I'm trying to figure out if I O'd yet. I had a +opk yesterday morning, - opk last night, and a + opk this morning. So I'm just waiting on my temp spike.
QOTD: I'm not really sure if you should be on met. My RE said he wasn't sure if I should be on it, but wanted to do some more tests before he took me off of it (my obgyn put me on it). He did say that it won't hurt me to be on it even if I don't need it and it has been associated with a decreased risk of m/c in women with pcos. I plan on staying on it unless there is enough evidence to support going off of it. If I were you I'd probably try it.
Update: CD 16, awaiting AF so I can start Clomid
QOTD: No insight for me either. My doc skipped right over Metformin and went to Clomid. But I've read a lot of research that says met will lower testosterone.
SAIF Always Welcome
Diagnosed with PCOS: 10/03, On BCP to "treat" until: 7/09
Provera to end Cycles 1-9 (anovulatory)
Cycle #4 & 5: Clomid 50 mg FAIL
RE Visit: 2000 mg Metformin
Cycle 6:Forced Break, looking for androgen secreting tumor
Cycle 7:Clomid CD 3-10, 12-17 FAIL
Cycle 8: Clomid CD 3-10, Bravelle CD 12-24 Hyperstimmed
New RE: Put on Byetta, lost 23 lbs
Cycle 9: Financial Break
Cycle 10: Femara CD 3-7, IUI CD 17 BFP on 2/14/11, m/c 3/7/11
I finished my last dose of Clomid this morning. Going for testing tomorrow. I'm feeling really discouraged about everything right now and have kind of been in a funk.
QOTD: My OB/GYN had said that it was really up to me if I wanted to try it (I am not IR and I just found out that my testosterone levels were a-ok). I think if I were in your position, I would. I think it's worth a shot! GL!
Me: Oligomenorrhea (workup for PCOS turned out to be negative)
DH: 1st SA 11/09: good volume but only 20% normal
Cycle #1: Clomid 50mg=No O
1/10 2nd SA (this time at the fertility clinic): PERFECT!!!
1/10 My Tests: HSG All clear! B/W is normal!
2/10 Started Acupuncture
Cycle #2: 100 mg Clomid CD4-CD8 trigger TI Progesterone=BFN
Cycle #3: 100 mg Clomid CD3-CD7 trigger TI Progesterone=BFP!
Beta 1=144 Beta 2=359 Beta 3=637
My Scrambled Eggs
Surprise BFP January 2012!
We are on a break until January or February because my RE wants me to lose 20 pounds (I am at 11 pounds lost right now). We are going to another RE for a 2nd opinion on the 30th. I figured it doesn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion and make sure what all we have done is the right protocal and what we will be doing (injectables and IUI) is the right protocal.
QQTD: I have no insight either. I am on metformin and I never thought to ask my RE why (which I will be asking this other RE on the 30th).
QOTD: My insulin levels are completely normal, however my testosterone is elevated and my LH:FSH ratio is high as well. I am currently on met and after about 3 months of taking it, I am finally having AF on my own. So I say yes you absolutely should!
Update: I am currently on stims for IVF #1. I have about 20 follies right now that are all right around 7-8. Go back for monitoring on Saturday
Is it alright if I join?
My story in a nutshell:
TTC DS1 for 12 months, OB says no issues (cycles are 29-36days). Meet with RE. US shows PCOS. No hormonal imblanace at all. Two clomid cycles= BFN, one "slow and low" Bravelle/iui= DS1 4/14/2008.
Begin TTC in 6/08 for number 2 (as soon as I began cycling after DS1). See RE in 10/08. Two cycles of follistim/IUI=OHSS, and BFN
Switch REs. Cycle off, Cycle off for HSG (all clear) One cycle aggressively medicated with Bravelle and Menopur=DS2 11/11/09.
We are now in a see what happens phase. I would have a hard time fitting in RE apts. at this point in my life, but we are not going to let PCOS ruin our family plans!!
When I delivered DS2, my OB suggested that we enjoy our marriage anf intimacy for a while, and he is confident we can conceive on our own.... I am hanging on his words, and hope he is correct!
I do have IR, but I never could tolerate MET. I am looking in to Januvia, or something similar to see if that helps me at all.
Has anyone used anthing other than MET to regulate insulin levels?
I am finally in the 2WW this cycle!
My Endo believes that Met has many benefits even for those who are not IR. I am a "thin-cyster" and on 2000mg Met. I've lost 15 pounds in about 6 weeks or so and my testosterone went down a little. I haven't noticed any other PCOS symptoms alleviated but I've only been on for 2 months so I will definitely give it more time. It also helps reduce the chance of miscarriage which is definitely a positive.
DD's Food Allergies: Peanuts and Rice, Outgrown Dairy!
8/09 Dx PCOS & Hashimoto's
BFP #2 12/13/11. Missed M/C at 11w5d, measured 8w6d. D&C 2/1/12
Never in my arms, but always in my heart.
I'm doing pretty good today. It's Clomid day 3, and aside from some moodiness and being tired, I'm doing well with it. I really hope it helps me O!!
I take met because of testosterone levels. It completely put everything into the normal ranges
And after the first couple of weeks of nausea, I'm tolerating it very well!
A+S | Met 8/24/06 | Married 9/27/08
Started TTC 12/2008 | dx PCOS 5/2009
6 failed clomid/femara/TI cycles, 1 failed clomid/ovidrel/IUI cycle
Successful Cycle: 5/12/11 - 1000mg Metformin + 100mg Clomid(late response) + TI = BFP
2/13/12 - We proudly welcomed our daughter, Hadley Teresa!
Lots of Luck to all of 3T/IF
CD3 Bloodwoork on Sat
QQTD- Yes I would take MET for that...
IVF#1: start stims 1/26; ER 2/8; ET 2/13= BFN; FET#1: May 2010= m/c *NEW CLINIC Jan 2011* IVF#2: start stims 1/12; ER 1/22; ET 1/27= BFN; IVF#3: TBD
~SAIFW/PAIFW~
I'm on day 5 of Clomid cycle 4 (going to do my second IUI this cycle) and having major mood swings...
and yes, you should definitely get on Met. There is clinical research out there supporting taking Met to lower testosterone levels.
Update: I got my bfp this week :-) Beta #1 on Wednesday was 294 and I go in to have it checked tomorrow, too.
QOTD: I am the same--normal insulin and GTT--and my RE did not put me on met. He says he rarely uses it for non IR PCOS. In addition, I have mild IBS so we did not want to aggravate that.
Update: I got a positive OPK last week! I had given up temping, so I can't be sure I ovulated, but if I did, this would be the first time in 10 months TTC! I guess I'm in my first 2ww
QOTD: I don't have any insights, but the side effects for the Met (ER) for me haven't been too bad, so if you think it could help, it might be worthwhile.
Currently pg with our 1st after 6.5 yrs of IF (thank you IVF)

Update : I got my hands on 'A Patient's Guide to PCOS"..and its very informative. I want to make up a balanced diet plan...my first goal is to lose 5%...then 10% of my body weight. I have more than that to lose...but Im starting with smaller goals. Im still going to chart and TTC, but Im thinking realisticly and won't go nuts if I have an anov. cycle or dont get a BFP.
Im very anxious to learn more and work towards a better me
You ladies seem so knowledgeable and I look forward to learning from you!
Update - started FET#1 cycle, FET scheduled for 17th or 18th
QOTD: I'm not really understanding the question - you want to get on metformin to lower your testosterone levels? Is your testosterone low?
Thanks for asking this! I REALLY appreciate hearing everyone's feedback as my RE is still fighting me on giving met a shot. I have my next appt on Wed and I can't wait to go over everything and hopefully come up with a plan for what to do next.
My HSG was this week and it was all clear, thankfully, though very painful. I also finally was able to induce my first af after bcp with both estrogen/provera. When I go to the RE, I'm going to ask them about b/w again to check my testosterone and see if it's still at the same level. Since they haven't let me try met, I decided to try DCI supplements. I've been on them for about a week, so we'll see if that helps at all.
I would like to join please. I've been TTC since Sept '09.
My story: I always had very infrequent periods as a teenager (2-3 a year). When I was 20 I finally went on the pill. I'm 24 now, and I went off the pill in September to TTC. I had bloodwork and an ultrasound done by my RE, and she diagnosed me with PCOS. I have slightly high testosterone, but no insulin resistance.
Right now I am on day 8 of 14 of prometrium to get AF (havent had a period since stopping the pill), then I'm doing a SHG, then the cycle after that will do clomid and a trigger shot.
Hi Ladies.
I have my first u/s tomorrow, and I am beyond scared. I keep thinking there's gonna be nothing there, no sac, no baby. I should be about 5w3d tomorrow. T&P please.
QOTD: When I first got diagnosed with PCOS, I wasn't insulin resistant, but the gyn still put me on Metformin. And my dh's SA was normal as well. Im sorry if I wasn't much help.
multiple failed cycles, multiple IUIs, lap with ovarian drilling 4/2008
Finally BFP on 11/23/09 beta#1=36 beta#2 =62 beta#3=139
Liliana was born on March 27,2010 at 21w5d due to infection and pre-term labor
BFP #2 on 6/20/10 after Gonal-F and TI First u/s showed Twins!
TTC#2 since 02/2012 with out RE...
Back to RE 08/2016----- Cycle #1 10/2016 Femara 7.5mg=???
Discovering the Metformin is not the miracle I once thought. Still not O-ing, feeling pretty down.
QOTD: Sorry, I have no input! All my tests were normal too, but I do feel that Metformin helped some with a few issues. I'd try it. While I'm frustrated with Met right now, I'm also frustrated that my doc won't increase my dose (I'm only on 1000 mgs) - I really think an increase would help. Sigh. GL to you!
"Just keep swimming, just keep swimming..."
Miracle DD born 12.2005
TTC #2 since Dec 2008 w/ PCOS
***P/SAIF Always Welcome***
Keep it Natural, Baby!
I am onto my next cycle, so I get to stick with the same protocol. Cycling around the holidays is always tough since I have to worry about refridgerating the HCG bottle.
qotd: I would go on Met anyways since the pros seem to outweigh the cons. It will help prevent things from getting out of whack if they aren't already, and it reduces the chance of m/c from 40% down to normal.
