Breastfeeding

which breast pump should i buy??

So im 36 weeks pregnant and trying to get everything in order before the big day. I plan on breast feeding for at least 6 months, and my boyfriend really wants to help with the night time feedings so i figured i should buy a pump before i have the baby so that way once i get the hang of breast feeding i can pump and let him take a turn. Problem is i no nothing about breast pumps. Would you ladies recommend manual ones or electronic? I dont have alot of money to spend on one so i want a reliable one. Which brands did you ladies find work the best??

  • I have the Medela PISA and I love it! I would however, be sure that you can breastfeed before you shell out a couple hundred dollars on a pump, unless of course you are ok with being an exclusive pumper if your LO won't latch... I think my pump was well worth the money spent!

  • I have the Medela PISA.  Great pump - I used it for about 13 months.  Ditto PP though.....wait until  you have the baby and see what happens.  I didn't get my pump until my son was almost a month old - but it was definitely worth the money.
  • Medela PISA, I bought it about 8 days after having DS, I wanted to make sure BFing would work out first.

  • I bought a Medela manual pump before dd was born. It helped when dd wouldn't latch and I was engorged! Later, I bought Ameda Purely Yours. LOVED it!
  • I love my Medela PISA.  I agree with PPs - wait until you know for sure that EBFing / EPing will work out for you before investing in a $300 pump!
  • I bought a Lansinoh (much cheaper!) and LOVE it!  It works great!!!

  • i bought a Platex double pump electric system (I never double pump though, it reduces the suction when you attach a second bottle).  I waited 2 weeks after she was born to buy it so that I could make sure I was able to bf and produce enough.  Platex has great customer service.  When my first motor wasn't working right I called them and they sent me a new motor the very next day!  I was afraid they would make me wait on it but they overnighted it!

  • I had the Medela with my first and totally hated it. The tubes can get mold in them, which totally grosses me out, and the thing is heavy and noisy.

Second baby, got the Ameda and love it. It actually fits in my regular (large) purse and no one is any the wiser when I'm walking around with it at work. I've been pumping for 6 months now and it's still rocking. I actually got a second one to keep at home since I'm pumping first thing in the morning and at the end of the day so that I can keep my other one at work. LOVELOVELOVE this pump.
