More Baptism Help Needed

Total dumb question I'm sure but what is the difference between baptism and christening? I'm Catholic so which would be appropriate? or is it based on how formal the ceremony and celebration will be? I guess I need wording help because in my research of invites I've seen it written both ways.

Also, difference between 'invite you to the' and 'witness the' baptism of?

Sucks being the first to have a baby in my family - I have no one so I'm glad to have you guys! :-)

Re: More Baptism Help Needed

  • Not sure what the difference is. I know that Catholics call it baptism, maybe Christening is for another denomination?? I am not a whole lot of help. We are planning for DD's baptism next month so I am working on the same things as you. Hope someone might chime in on the invitation wording.

  • My family is Catholic and has only ever referred to it as baptism....not sure if it's just my family though?
  • Thanks ladies. My family also only refers to it as Baptism. So that's what I put.
  • essentially it's the same but i'd stick with Baptism as it's what the church refers to it as... as far as wording, it's entirely up to you on how you phrase the invite. for a more traditional celebration i would use more formal wording etc. but really, it's up to you.
