3rd Trimester

ok, why do they sell car adaptors for breast pumps?!

Seriously.. Is anyone planning to pump and drive? Or even to sit in a parked car with boobage and pump on display, dairy cow style?

Hmm

  • LOL. I dunno... emergencies maybe?

  • I would if I needed to!

  • ::raises hand:: I have a problem with my breasts so although I will be able to BF I will not be able to go more than 2 hours without pumping or feeding LO. So if DH and I go see a movie or go to dinner without LO I will need to pump in the car. Not worried about the whole cow thing since my car has limo tint
  • Well, some working moms don't have many other options. Yes, there are laws saying employers must provide a room...but if you read the rest of the act it usually says UNLESS it would cause a problem/disruption/etc. Anyway, I might sit in my car and pump with a cover over me.

  • Um, because you might need to pump in your car?  Depending on the situation, sometimes it's not easy to find a place to pump.  Desperate times call for desperate measures.

  • uh, travel? If you are taking a road trip and need to pump it might not be convenient to find a bathroom or private area with an outlet.
  • Dude... My sister totally pumped and drove! It made me crazy! I understand when Momma's are using it for parked car usage but my sister totally used it while DRIVING! She does a lot of other things driving too. I really hope she never hits anything! Angry
  • This is where I pump at work.  In my car, in the parking lot (with a nursing cover on).  It's the most private place around.

Also, I have read on the bump about women who have longer commutes pumping in their cars while driving, using hands free.

I don't know I kind of hope she does hit someone while pumping! I mean could you imagine?!

  • Hmmm.... imagine you have to be the passenger in an hours-long drive to some relative's holiday dinner, and the baby is screaming in the back.... I'd pump in the car just to avoid having to stop extra times.  Clearly not if I was the DRIVER, though.  But it's not like you can be in a moving car and have the baby unrestrained (we're not Britney, after all) in order to BF.  But pump and feed right away?  Absolutely.
  • yes i wish mine had one...it is a pain in the rear to plan pumping around going out. my son never latched on so i had to pump...and believe me when your boobs are ready..they are ready!

  • I'm going with the boob-covers and 'better than a bathroom' option....lol!!  IDK much about pumps so here goes my likely dumb question.  Is it a battery charger or do the pumps have to be plugged in the whole time?

    Hmm

ME!  =D  Let me clarify that my husband and I do A LOT of traveling and I can't say that I would always remember to keep extra batteries around!  Also, we are season ticket holders to football and basketball and it's an hour drive for us so if I needed to I could pump before I went into the game or from coming out of the game.

  • I am a lurker from 1st tri but I had to answer.  I will have no choice but to pump in my car on a daily basis because I am a outside sales rep and spend all day driving from account to account.  My car is my office.  There is nowhere else for me to pump.  The accounts that I go to don't have a place for me to pump nor would I feel comfortable asking if I could (hair salons).  The same is true for most pharm, title and mortgage reps.

  • I'm going to be a working mom & am a Home Care CNA. I can't really pump at my patients houses so I will need to pump in my car. You gotta do what you gotta do.

  • I have pumped in the car.  I was at a business event and there was no place to pump (except the public bathroom of a conference conter). My car was much cleaner and more private.
  • I work entirely on the road and my only option is to pump in my car, so luckily they make car adapters for my pump. I wear a hooter hider so the girls are covered.

  • My friend said to make sure I got the adapter for road trips. You can pump when you would otherwise be nursing (and avoid the discomfort and leaking and other problems associated w/ skipping feedings) AND you can feed your baby a bottle while sitting in the back of the car while DH drives- you can't BF while driving for obvious safety reasons. She said if she didn't pump on the drive to her parents and IL's houses, it would add 2-3h each way (7h drive otherwise).

  • I've done it in both parked and moving vehicles.  They make hands free pumping bras so you can drive safely.  You do what you have to do.
