Postpartum Depression

PPA vs PPD?

I feel like I have more anxiety then depression.  I CONSTANTLY worry about SIDS and have dropped so much $$ on preventative crap that I literally had to lie to DH about it! (We're not going into debt or anything over it, but its a little ridiculous).  I spent my whole pregnancy worrying too.  I do have depression, but haven't been diagnosed with PPD - I just started back on Zoloft after I was done BFing.

Anyways, just wondering who else is out there with a bad case of anxiety over their baby?

Re: PPA vs PPD?

  • I had terrible anxiety after delivering.  I had a pretty scary labor and delivery and had dd 6 weeks early.  I was stuck in the house for 8 weeks with an infant.  I thought I was going crazy.  My dr put me on Zoloft at 6 weeks pp.

  • I had terrible anxiety. I later learned anxiety is a part of PPD. How long have you been on the medication?
  • Me!  Well, not anymore as I've been treating for it.  But I was a huge bundle of nerves for most of the first year after my daughter was born.  I couldn't sleep because I was afraid someone would break in and take her if I did.  I didn't see the doctor until she was a year old. Zoloft helped tremendously.

The final issue of Cookie magazine (Nov, I think) had a good article about PPA.  I haven't been able to find the article on-line, though.

Exactly 4 weeks.  I have my 6 week appointment tomorrow and am going to talk to my OB about it - I think I may need a higher dose.  I really don't want to go on lorezapam on a regular basis, although I do have it for as needed.

  • My PPD presented primarily as extreme anxiety. But it's still PPD.

I was anxious about everything. Not just the baby. Everything.
  • They are two different things but usually go sononomously together. Have you checked out this article, I keep trying to post it so that I catch everyone, it is a great breakdown of symptoms of both PPD and PPA and clearly tells you that you may have signs/symps of both, etc. It really summed up a LOT of what I was experiencing, I had a handful of symps from both lists and I've been put on Zoloft which is really helping.

(I'm going to post a separate thread just with the article so it's easy for everyone to find)
