So i had a 9 month old in for a sick visit for something unrelated, but she starts telling me all about this car accident she had been in a few days ago where she was rear-ended .
She said that they went to the ER b/c he kept crying.I asked her if he had been hurt and she said "well his neck got all jerked around".
So I asked her if he was rear facing or forward facing and she looked at me like I was dumb and said "forward facing b/c he is 20 lbs now).
So I told her I was shocked that she was not charged or ticketed for a car seat violation and informed her of the state laws. And reminded her how lucky she was that nothing worse happened to her son. I'm sure she was mad at me, but I really don't care.
The police are so slack on enforcing car seat rules.
Re: made a mom mad and I don't care (carseat related)
rules is rules!
THat pic of Conner is too cute!! and Happy 1st Birthday!!
I live across the tracks from the "wrong" side. I am shocked at what I see regarding car seat use in that community. I have seen 4 and 5 kids under 4 in the back seat of a car, no seat belts, much less car seats, boosters for kids who can't yet walk, forward facing infant seats, ect.
Makes me sad. In a lot of cases the grand parents are raising the children. They love them, but don't have the resources to buy seats or to buy cars that can hold all the grand kids they car for at a given time.
And so often it ends in Tragedy:https://www.2theadvocate.com/news/police/78198012.html
"None of the 13 children was restrained in the van, which had a tire blowout before flipping from the westbound lanes of I-10 to the eastbound lanes, State Police said. The children were fully ejected from the van."
