So confused... my ovulation test kit said my surge was last Thursday, but that's 3 weeks into my cycle not two. I know the kit is more accurate than the calendar, but does that mean i only have a 1 week wait (since i had been assuming AF was coming this Friday?)
I have been off the pill for 2 cycles now. AF came after 28 days the first go round, but I don't know if I should expect the same this time.
Any ideas? Thx!
Re: Is the wait always 2 weeks?
My BFP Chart
Oh wow.
Yes, the wait is always 2 weeks. Your cycle is different lengths depending on the Follicular and Menses phases. Your Luteal phase is always the same. If you are charting and know your Luteal phase is only 12 days, you can test at 13. But, generally, it's 2 weeks after you ovulate that you can test.

Morgan,
The 2 week wait refers to the weeks AFTER ovulation and before getting AF or taking a HPT. It's technically called the LP (luteal phase.. did I spell that right? lol) No, it's not always exactly 2 weeks. Some people have a LP as short as 8 or 9 days (considered too short for an egg to actually implant) up to 14 or even 16 days.. maybe longer.
I'm a bit of a newb myself. Maybe another poster can give more insight.
Good luck!
You really need to read Taking Charge of Your Fertility.
You don't ovulate 2 weeks into your cycle. You generally ovalate 2 weeks before AF shows. The 2 week wait is called the luteal phase. So whatever day you ovulate, it's generally 12-14 after that that you get your period.
That's why when people come here and say they are late but got a - test, we tell them it's because they ovulated later then expected and are still in the 2WW stage.

It is called the 2ww because your LP does not normally fluctuate very much and for a lot of women, it is around 14 days.
If it takes you an extra week to O, or even an extra two weeks, you will still have the 2ww.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
The 2ww starts after you O.
OPK's can detect your LH surge but cannot guarantee O.
Charting can tell you when you O'd after you O.
It can take up to a year to regulate your cycles after coming off of bc.

I know it seemed like a stupid question to some of you. And yes, I know that the two week wait is after ovulation and not before. I was simply confused because i had a 28 day cycle last month and according to my opk this month it may be a week longer cycle because of how late i ovulated. Maybe i phrased it poorly or maybe I never should have asked the question.
I just started TTC 2 months ago and I came here for support, not to have people think I am an idiot and make comments like "head on desk" (the picture and the comment). I guess I was hoping for a little too much if this is what i get in response to a simple question about varying cycle length after coming off BC.
Everyone gets ::headdesked:: once in awhile. Don't worry about it.
Stick around if you want support, info, and laughs galore.
This. And many people were quite helpful. Perhaps the question could have been better phrased. I highly recommend sticking around. These girls are a laugh riot.

I do appreciate all the helpful answers and I just finished signing up for FertilityFriend, I was just addressing those posts that were not meant to help at all.
Maybe it was an overraction on my part, but I am new to this so everything is stressing me out and I am hormonal and I just didn't like being made to feel like and idiot when I have read a lot of information already.
Thank you.
Bwahahaha!!
*pats head*
It's okay. Just read along and enjoy. You'll get used to it. (or decide it's not for you.)
Relax and don't let this stop you from sticking around. These girls are "wicked smaht" and are good for a laugh (especially on Tuesdays!).
You may get a couple of comments that may not sound ultra supportive, but you're new and have all the same questions everyone else probably did at some point. No worries!
Morgan,
I hope what you got out of it was that you do still have a 2 week wait (approximately).. even if you O later than Day 14 (as you did). So about 10-16 days from now, either AF will arrive on your doorstep, or you could get a BFP.
Again, good luck, and do stick around!!
