my co-worker is wondering how to pronounce her patient's name. It is Jaeger. I said it was with a hard "J" but we looked it up and it is a German name, so might they pronounce it "Yay-ger" like the alcohol?

Lol yes I'd say it Yay-ger like the alcohol
I would pronounce it like the alcohol.
If they are going for "Jagger", they missed a letter.
I had a patient named Jaeger once too! When I met him, I pronounced it "Jay-ger", and immediately (and politely) asked if I was saying it correctly, and the kid's mom got irritated that it wasn't obvious! She goes, "well yeah, how else would you say it? Hmmpph." + mega eye roll. Ridiculous!
Anyway, It could be Jah-ger, Jay-ger, Ya-ger, Yay-ger...... Who the hell knows! :-P
lol!
Doesn't the hockey player Jamier Jaeger spell his LN like that? His is pronounced Ya-ger.
Maybe I'm wrong.
Me too. Knew someone once who had the last name Jaeger and that's how she pronounced it.
me too
I'd pronounce it "cheap nasty alcohol".

This. If you are refereing to the alcohol J?germeister it's pronunciation has certainly been bastardized. So saying the name is pronounced like the alcohol doesn't really help too much.
That's a tough one. I would say Yay-ger but ya never know how their family actually pronounces it.
