Rivals is reporting that Auburn just accepted a bid to play in the Outback bowl! Here's the article (since you have to pay for a subscription to be able to read this):

Auburn will be playing in a New Year's Day Bowl.

An Auburn athletic official confirmed to AuburnSports.com that Auburn will accept a bid to the Outback Bowl, which will be played Jan. 1 in Tampa, Fla.

An official announcement is expected Tuesday afternoon.

It will be Auburn's first appearance in the Outback Bowl since a 43-14 loss to Penn State in 1996. Auburn beat Ohio State 31-14 in 1990 in what was then called the Hall of Fame Bowl.

The Tigers will be the first SEC West team to play in the Outback Bowl since the 1997 game featuring Alabama and Michigan.

The Outback also gets the No. 3 selection from the Big Ten. With Ohio State and Iowa expected to play in a BCS Bowl, Auburn's likely opponent would be Wisconsin (8-3) or Northwestern (8-4).

The Badgers play at Hawaii Dec. 5 and the Outback Bowl won't choose the Big Ten representative until Sunday.

Auburn has never played Northwestern. The Tigers lost to Wisconsin 24-10 in the 2005 Capital One Bowl and defeated the Badgers 28-14 in the 2003 Music City Bowl.

In his first season as Auburn's head coach, Gene Chizik led the Tigers to a 7-5 record.

The Outback Bowl is scheduled to kickoff at 10:00 a.m. CT in Raymond James Stadium. It will be carried live on ESPN.

Hooray for a New Year's bowl! I was really thinking that we were going to Shreveport for the Liberty Bowl. This is much better!!!

he he, my DH told me this, this morning!!! I LOVE LOVE it!!!! WOOT WOOT!!!

I think it's great. I just didn't want to go to Shreveport or B'ham. Keep in mind I have a different interest in it since we have to report Christmas day. So we'll get to see my family and then go to the bowl game together (DH & I)!!!

Let's hope this is official - running to confirm w/DH if he's not to busy with the news!!! lol

ha ha!!!! yep, and my parents made it more difficult by planning some trip for the 28-29th. And my sister insists on going to the mtn house in GA, so it may be we just go to Tallahassee for Christmas Eve/Day.

and he wouldn't really agree with you b/c it's SO much work w/such little pay. The perks are nice though!!!! Well they are for me. All I have to pay for for the bowl game is my flight there. I might be able to swing it on skymiles though. I think his job is cool too though, guess when it's you, you see it differently though.

he's in media relations and works with football and track/field. So yep, our lives are turned upside down this time of year.

ha ha amelia. He wouldn't agree w/you b/c he works 7 days a week from Aug to Jan. It's a lot. We all think it's cool but it's not as cool as it seems Stick out tongue
