Stupid question re: water for formula.

I bought a Brita filter for my sink in order to save a bit of $ on the gallons at the store. I was thinking about going ahead and filling up an empty gallon with the filtered water and keeping it on the counter. Is that ok or is it better that the water be fresh, straight out of the faucet?

  • I think it's fine to fill up your gallon with the Britta water.

  • Also, we've been keeping hot water hot by having it in a thermos during the night. I've been thinking about buying a bottle warmer instead because the thought of having the water sit in a metal can all night makes me uneasy. My husband says it's fine but I don't know. Opinions?

  • We have a Brita that goes in the fridge.  We fill up the gallon jug and leave it on the counter so the water will be room tempature.

  • I love my bottle warmer.  A lot of people say they're unnecessary but I love to be able to pop a cold bottle in the warmer - take care of a few other things - then grab it and give to baby all warmed up.  I'm a big fan.

  • We have a brita tank in our fridge we just filled that up every couple of days and kept it in the fridge.  The thermos is fine the metal is not toxic I liked my bottle warmer but it never worked quick enough for those middle of the night feedings.

  • I keep a pitcher of filtered water on the counter so it's room temp. Then I don't need to warm the bottle...but when DS only drinks half a bottle and the rest goes in the fridge, I need to warm those bottles. So I do have a bottle warmer that I use for about 50% of his bottles (usually just the day time ones, b/c as a pp said...waiting for he bottle warmer in the middle of the night with a hungry crying baby is no fun!)

  • My son actually got used to bottles straight from the fridge.  Which was awesome.

He grew out of that, though, but even afterwards- cold water straight from the tap is perfectly fine for him.

A part of it is what they get used to.  If you want him to get used to WARM, then sure, use warm water.  But I really liked having a baby that would take it cold, cool, or just room temp/ straight from the tap.
