I bought a Brita filter for my sink in order to save a bit of $ on the gallons at the store. I was thinking about going ahead and filling up an empty gallon with the filtered water and keeping it on the counter. Is that ok or is it better that the water be fresh, straight out of the faucet?

We have a Brita that goes in the fridge. We fill up the gallon jug and leave it on the counter so the water will be room tempature.

I keep a pitcher of filtered water on the counter so it's room temp. Then I don't need to warm the bottle...but when DS only drinks half a bottle and the rest goes in the fridge, I need to warm those bottles. So I do have a bottle warmer that I use for about 50% of his bottles (usually just the day time ones, b/c as a pp said...waiting for he bottle warmer in the middle of the night with a hungry crying baby is no fun!)
My son actually got used to bottles straight from the fridge. Which was awesome.
He grew out of that, though, but even afterwards- cold water straight from the tap is perfectly fine for him.
A part of it is what they get used to. If you want him to get used to WARM, then sure, use warm water. But I really liked having a baby that would take it cold, cool, or just room temp/ straight from the tap.
