trouble with names

so.. im having a boy. and i haven't got a clue on what to name him. nothing appeals to me. my 8 yr old niece made a list of names for me to see which names i liked, and she came up with 28 names, and i rejected all of them. i look thru books, online, and i become overwhelmed. to where i keep saying: "i have about 4 more months to figure this out".. i have a middle name.. although i CANT pronounce it.. i only know it means "last emperor of Mexico" and there is A LOT of hx and meaning behind this name (yes, i let my guy choose it.. lol... hes very into our culture) i also wanted to have my dads name as a middle name, but i dont want our baby with a long name.. i thought of "Nathaniel" (my dads middle name) for his first name.. but now it just doesnt appeal to me.. i also liked "Andrew" "Jude" and "Liam" but now all of those names, just dont sound right..nothing sounds right.. i say it out loud.. to see how it sounds, but again, nothing appeals to me..

i want something simple.. yet with meaning.. but i also dont want it sounding too American or too Mexican (hope that doesnt offend people , but i already agreed to a name that i cant pronounce, for his middle name)

is anyone else having this problem? or had this problem?

P.S everyone has been posting about names, so ive decided to join in..

Re: trouble with names

  • What is the middle name?

Our boy name is Nathaniel Martin

  • What about Ezekiel Nathan (Nathan is a form of Nathaniel) *insert awesome cultural name*

We decided Ezekiel if we have a boy.  It was the ONLY boy name we agreed on.

  • I am having this SAME problem.  Every name is TOO.... something.  I had a girl name... but i don't like any boy names.... And if i pick one - once i say it a few times it just doesn't sound right.  Then i made the mistake of google-ing the names... and it ruined the few names i did like...

Ethan.... is TOO popular and doesn't have a good nickname... and when i looked it up i found pictures of gay porn

Curtis... i got pictures of 50 cent... which kinda ruined it for me...and my dad said he doesn't like it

Braddock... our last name begins with a B and it has too much alliteration...  and my husband thinks its hoity toity...

So... i'm stuck.. i think someone else should just choose the name.

  • we had so much trouble w/DS's name too--girl names were so much easier for us.  You'll find it...it may just take a while.  GL!

Yikes, that's a hard one!!!  Aren't there any other Mexican names that are a bit easier to say and spell???

  • I had this same problem with ds.  I didn't like any names and couldn't come up with anything.  All of the sudden 2 wks before I delivered, Colin just seemed right.   Hope that happens for you.  I would have never been able to name another boy so luckily I'm having a girl this time.
  • I don't know if this will be of any help to you, but my mother told me that even though she had some names she liked picked out for me and my brothers, she said that the first time she saw each of us she just *knew* what to name us. She ended up with a Clinton, Clayton and Amanda - and they suit us each perfectly!

  • yes, we are having that problem with girl names.  It's frustrating!
  • DH and I are having a hard time w/our boys name. We're doing a list and waiting 'til he comes out to see what he looks like, but the list is hard. We don't agree on a lot, which doesn't help.  I keep asking this baby to tell me his name in a dream or something b/c I'm just getting nervous we'll never figure it out.  GL to you!

  • It's the opposite for me.  Boy name is sorted (Sebastien Francis), but I can't figure out a girl name that both DH and I love.
